The bolded is the part that mostly confuses me re. his actions, once hired. I'm sure he was going for people that he was comfortable being around and trusted. And I get that. Here’s the worst part of hiring this moron. This fuchsing retard inherited a premier program who opened their checkbook for a comically large support staff, gave him upgraded facilities in the most fertile state in the country going into the easiest time in history to make the college football playoffs. It was set up perfectly for him where all he had to do was get his team in the top 12 by year 3 and he would get in the playoffs, get an extension, a huge raise, etc. All he really needed to do was hire competent coordinators and recruiters and keep his incompetence in check by taking a game day hands off approach. But the guy is so stupid, he’s oblivious to his own incompetence.
He was/is also a fairly young coach and probably doesn't have a ton of contacts that he can reach out to, so he's limited there too. But UF is a known commodity, and so are its coffers, as is the SEC and the state of Florida...all of which have their own appeal and draw, so if he had pursued X coach, I think he gets them. In essence, he chose to move his trailer to a new location that was upscale from his last.
Also, I can understand that he, "wants to call plays because it's the closest he can get to actually being on the field" but at some point he has to let that bravado move (ego) go and understand he's bad at it and needs to turn that over to someone.
And his response would be that our players have made little errors at critical times in the games that cost us. Ok, that may be true, but why IN YEAR 1 OR 2 are you hellbent on running an offense that can be completely derailed by just one player making one small mistake? Maybe your concepts are too hard to understand or maybe you and your coaches are doing a piss poor job of communicating the intricacies and importance of rep perfection. Either way, simplify the offense and open the playbook as their familiarity and ability increase.
But it's his timing of play calls that really needs to be criticized. He has zero "feel" for his own damn calls, IMO.
Just turn the calls over to someone else and be the CEO.
