Guy's, an MSU bulldog here and I just wanted to say that I am happy for Florida and Dan Mullen, that the program hired him as your new coach, he should be a good fit and do great things for Florida, especially since he has such a great history of winning when he was the oc there. Myself and many of the Bulldogs fans hated to loose him but I understand all the reasons why and I have no problem with anyone, no matter what field or job they have, making as career move that he perceives to be much better in many ways and with more money to boot. But, most of you may or maynot have heard over the years, a major and primary complaint or criticism of Coach Mullen, shared by me and with a very large number of other MSU fans, is the fact that he, for whatever reasons and from the very first year, is simply not as good of a recruiter as he should have been and he missed out on several huge players, even some that were all stars at Starkville! A.J. Brown, the first team, all sec wide receiver from Ole Miss, is from Starkville, and just like you all are describing some concerns with your QB recruit, Corrall, and questioning if Dan is doing enough to recruit him, A.J. Brown flat out stated that Dan Mullen didn't even recruit him very hard so he went to Ole Miss. We needed wide receivers desperately this year and could have used him as he is an absolute star and will be on Sundays too. He took out his revenge on Dan and MSU with his stellar play in the Egg Bowl, single handedly winning it for Ole Miss. He was not the first player that Dan got lazy on, just the last. But, Dan has never been a good recruiter and this confused and baffled us MSU fans terribly. He did recruit and develop a lot of good talent, although we would only get mostly 3 stars players, good for MSU. Along with missing out on many 4 star players within a 60 mile radius, Dan Mullen, for some reason, would either simply just slow down or barely continue the recruiting of players and on every yearly signing day, we constantly had several players to decommit and always many more than the normal decommits that other schools had and many of them said that the recruiting, or lack of, and the sudden lack of interest shown them was the reason they decommitted. I really am not a butt hurt fan, I knew that Coach Mullen would leave one day and I am happy with our new coach and future. But, there is one other thing that has always bothered me and many other MSU fans and that is the very confusing play calls Dan would make and usually at the most important and critical time of the game. He would get a comfortable lead and then just take his foot of the gas and completely slow our game down and many times, the other team would come back and come close to beating us or they did beat us. Last year we went 5-7 and Dan's play calling was so bad that many fans, boosters or whoever, actually started a petition to try and convince Dan to hire an OC and let him call the offence instead of Dan. Did any of you watch the MSU-Alabama game, it was a good old fashion, hard hitting SEC game and MSU could have and should have won that game but do you remember how Dan's playcalling lost us the game and even the sports commentators in the booth, Greg McElroy and many others said the play calling was terrible at the end and that was why we lost the game. We were somewhere across midfield with only a minute or two left in the game, facing a fourth down and a short yard to gain, Dan punted the damn ball and everyone knew that we would never get it back with enough time to mount a winning drive. But, remember also how Todd Grantham kept calling for an all out blitz, and on every down, toward Alabama leaving our very average secondary lost and confused. Of course, you saw how Ridley could just run down field, anywhere he wanted to and was so open we didn't have anyone within 20 yard of him and he scored with seconds left to win the game. I want Florida and the rest of the SEC to get very dominate and strong again so I really do wish you nothing but success. Anyway, I just happened upon this post and was reading how a few of you are a little concerned about Mullen's lack of contact with Corral and I just had to share this fact with you because that is the very same, exact and confusing things that we would see every year with Dan and his recruiting style, or lack thereof. Also, please just ignore all of the sudden, rude and disrespectful fans that MSU seems to have in abundance right now and they are the younger, Millennials, that are too young to remember the losing history of MSU and the bad times we have had for years. Dan is a very good and capable coach and I see no reason that Florida shouldn't immediate success.
