Then post it here! Not gonna lie; I’ve seen some Shiite that was a lot more crazy than that. (But that was pretty weird.).
How in the ever living PHUKK do you make MARBLE look like a draped veil? Then post it here!
Actually, I took the son to the art museum in Atlanta and the marble statues were crazy!

Too bad she didn't get the balls autographed. Especially if it was Willie who hit 'em.As fate would have it, she had to be a Phillies fan

Yes, very impressive!See that net? Guess what.

Alex.

	Yes, very impressive!
But a thin veil of material draped over a figure? Revealing both the veil AND the figure underneath? Like, that's crazy.
Almost as much as me just using "like".

If by flowers you mean nipples, that's ALL I'm looking at.Look at the veiling...then consider the delicate flowers in the garland.

carved out of one piece, with no 2-part epoxy, by hand is extremely impressive. This is the statue of Apollo and Daphne at Villa Borghese outside Rome. It was sculpted by my personal favorite, Bernini. The story is that Apollo was chasing Daphne and at the final moment, realizing she couldn't escape and was about to be caught, she prayed and was turned into a laurel tree. The sculpture captures the moment of metamorphosis as Apollo gets his dirty mitts on her and she begins to be transformed into a tree.

Here's the jaw-dropping part. The whole thing is carved out of marble, each stem and each leaf (if you cook, you'll recognize the laurel leaves as bay leaves, same thing). Some years ago, the statue was cleaned. The workers said that when they cleaned the leaves, some vibrated and hummed with a sound like rubbing a wet finger on the rim of a crystal champagne glass. Gian Lorenzo Bernini carved that with hammer and chisel over 400 years ago.

If you ever get to visit Rome, put Villa Borghese on the "must" list right next to the Coliseum and the pistachio gelato. Bernini's "Rape of Prosperina" is incredible, as is his "David".

The fact that it's so long ago isn't really impressive to me as I think people have gotten dumbed down today, vs before, from all the reliance on a single piece of technology that doubles as a camera, phone, calculator, weather vane, quiz answer-er-er, etc.
I mean, how many pyramids have you built this century?
Yeah, I got that, too.I make that point not because of the skill of the artists, but because of the primitive tools at their disposal.
Alex.
Yeah, I got that, too.
But how much have hammers and chisels advanced?

...they've really just gotten uglier.
And yet, ALL of that is less than what the Egyptians used for building the pyramids. You just can't find alien labor and knowledge at Home Depot anymore.I get your point, but materials science has evolved. Think tungsten carbide drill bits. Different kinds of stronger and more durable steel would allow for finer tools for detail work (like dental instruments). Power hammers, drills, and rotary tools would have helped a lot. Maybe diamond rasps, files, and cutting disks. Higher quality and more consistent calipers. Perhaps laser grid projectors. I'm not a sculptor, I'm just guessing here, but I bet Bernini would give his left nut for a functioning rotary tool.
