    What’s your favorite music venue?

@cover2 mentioned The Caverns in another thread and that looks amazing.
I’ve been to Red Rock amphitheater but it’s a bucket list item to actually listen to a band play there.

    upload_2021-3-9_8-14-42.jpeg

I saw a local place advertising a drive-in music experience where you stay in your car to watch the band play. I’m old enough that it actually sounds good to me.

My favorite is probably a bar and watching someone play an acoustic guitar singing songs we know and love.

This is Planet Bluegrass in Lyons Colorado. Great venue - they also have the performers teach instrument classes

The Bayou in Georgetown was an amazing venue. It was filthy and run down, but there was something special about that place, from its location under the Whitehurst Freeway to how on top of the entertainment you were. Billy Joel referred to it as “intimate” (he recorded several of the songs on “Songs in the Attic” there) and that was the best way to describe it.

I think that place is long gone. The Birchmere in Alexandria is cool - I saw a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band there just last week. The Wolf Trap in Vienna is really cool too - I've seen Chicago, Bruce Hornsby, The Wood Brothers, Jackson Brown, Edwin McCain and a few others there.

Never been to Red Rocks - that would be cool AF.

I saw Tom Petty in 2013 in NYC at the Beacon Theater. I saw the Rockette's at Radio City Music Hall.

Yes it is long gone. (As is another great old venue, The Cellar Door.) The Birchmere is pretty cool too, tho it is in a different spot now than originally and is nicer. Wolf trap is a beautiful venue; been there for a variety of different types of shows. The lawn is great, but I’ve always been lucky it didn’t rain! The acoustics in the amphitheater are excellent.

Blossom Music Center, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. I worked concert security one summer in the early 80s, saw a lot of good rock bands. Saw a guy overdose on shrooms after the Grateful Dead show. Eventually he came down ok.

Place was built as summer home for Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. Big wood panels above and behind the stage were adjustable / retractable for acoustics. Bands always sounded great. Reserved seats under roof, gen adm. for the curved lawn hillside.

I love small venue/bars for seeing a good band. The 9:30 Club in DC and Vinyl Music Hall here in P'cola are like that.

The two folks sitting in the red lawn chairs is about where I sat for a Buffett concert in '85. Great place...
at the time it was a freakin' parking lot to try and get out of after a show, but you could probably say that about a lot of places.

I went to one of the first concerts at the Lucas Oil Stadium and the acoustics were HORRIBLE until they finally opened up the roof. it changed everything.

Deer Creek in Indy is my favorite and home venue.

But the ultimate bucket list for a place I haven’t been is The Gorge in Washington.

The Gorge is great for a spectacular outdoor venue. You can camp right there too at the lot adjacent. Been to many shows out there (String Cheese, Dylan, Phish, DMB, Sasquatch Festivals).
But like a previous poster, I like smaller venues. Hell, I loved the Covered Dish back in the day, seeing acts like Big White Undies, Jonathan Richman, Spidermonkey and Less Than Jake.
The Showbox in Seattle is awesome. 2 of my top 5 live shows ever were there (Rusted Root and MMW).

Looks like fun. I notice there’s only guy wearing a poncho, and he happens to be sitting in the front row. Was there a killer whale portion of the show that we should know about?
