Who is your favorite artist that left a successful band for a solo career?

I was never really a giant Beatles fan, but I did like a lot of what Paul McCartney did afterward. I’d say Eric Clapton was probably my favorite of those to go from a band(s) to solo.

I was going to go with Sinatra but forgot he was in that group initially and didn’t think he qualified.

I see you edited your initial post:

I don't know about a favorite, but Peter Gabriel (Genesis), Sting (The Police), Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys), and Michael Jackson (The Jackson 5) come to mind.

Edit: Can't forget Jeff Beck (The Yardbirds).

Oddly enough, you posted Conner Friel... that said, I'm glad that his solo career as Connor4Real failed and that he and the Style Boyz got back together. I was never part of the Conntourage.

I can’t remember if Slater ever left Zack Attack and did his own thing, but he probably should’ve. Once Jesse started stripping and Lisa started her Sammy Sosa impersonation act, the sizzle was gone.
