Good timing... I just heard David Allan Coe's 'The Ride' yesterday. Got the goose bumps:
"You don't have to call me Mister, Mr.... the whole world called me Hank"
The Perfect Country Western Song. "I was drunk the day my momma got out of prison ... "

And speaking of John Prine and Guy Clark...

this Guy Clark song ... John does with Emmylou.
I have listened to this one about a thousand times.

Everybody has that one special teacher in their lives, right?

Mine was my 6th grade teacher. She was the best. She created such a special atmosphere, my 6th grade class still keeps in touch with her and with each other we even have reunions every once in a while.

Last year, at the height of the COVID shut-downs, her husband died. Tough time to lose a spouse when people can't visit. A bunch of us pitched in some money and sent a honey baked ham and 50 white roses to her house. We wanted to do something more, something really special, but not something that would make her sad every time she saw it, or that would raise any awkward questions.

She and her husband were musicians, regularly played at local bars, and "their" song was Seminole Wind. We purchased high quality sheet music for the song and had it beautifully framed for her. It is now one of her most treasured possessions.

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is epic. I was airborne that night and participated in the search for the lost vessel.

Mr. Prine explains how they came up with that in the intro of this video

This is the version that I'm used to where DAC explains where the second chorus came from:

Well, a friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that song
And he told me it was the perfect country & western song
I wrote him back a letter and I told him it was not the perfect country & western song
Because he hadn't said anything at all about mama
Or trains, or trucks, or prison, or getting' drunk
Well, he sat down and wrote another verse to the song and he sent it to me
And after reading it I realized that my friend had written the perfect country & western song
And I felt obliged to include it on this album
The last verse goes like this here

Interesting though
