Yeah I really like these coaching hires. Baalke, tho, is disappointing.

In the press conference that announced Baalke it seemed like they were indicating that Meyer would be given more power this way - or at least that what I took from it trying to read between all the coachspeak/political correctness type BS

Khan made it clear that Meyer was in charge of all football decisions.

Baalke has never worked well with any head coach. There is always problems. Meyer being the main guy doesn't matter. Baalke will fight him. That has always been his MO.

Then he’ll get sh*t-canned. It was made clear that Meyer was THE hire to be in charge. I don’t see Urbs shying away from confrontation.

Maybe Baalke learned his lesson from his time with the 9ers. I hope so.

With that in mind, the number rounds out to 35. 35 players or 57 percent of all of Trent Baalke’s draft picks either were released by the team or retired during their time with the 49ers.“

He could make for a good scapegoat if Meyer gets to the league and makes a ton of mistakes in his first year or two

Ox, can we start a pickem contest when Urban will quit the NFL due to health reasons? You know it is coming and I want to pick 2 years 11 months and 21 days.

Our unhealthy "jilted lover" obsession over Urban Meyer seems never ending. Coz, why don't you curl yourself up in your snuggy, open a quart of ice cream and watch a romantic comedy marathon on the Lifetime channel instead?

When he either finds the NFL is not college

                OR

When he is considered successful and gets board.

I think the former comes first...4 years

It depends if he's going to be okay with 7-9 losses a year. If he's mostly there for the money but also to see if his management style translates to the pros he should be fine. He can't suffer every loss as a life-ending tragedy like he did in college or he won't last long. In other words it will depend how much pressure he puts on himself. One thing for sure, he's going to have to get used to losing.

I give him 3 years. He'll either be out after or near the end of year 3, or there will be concerns he's looking for the opportunity to leave. Just don't think he's cut out for the nfl game for the same reason saban isnt... they are the 2 best crooters in football. That's why they win. Granted as Xs and Os, strategy and motivation goes I think he's better than saban, but neither are gurus. Their success has always been in crootin. The NFL voids that skill, and in many ways penalizes coaches for having better talent. If he starts winning the new players will be worse, not better bc of it.

Bummer that Keenan Mcardell isn't being kept.

@TomPelissero: The #Jaguars are hiring veteran wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal, source said. An experienced staff coming together under Urban Meyer and Darrell Bevell.

Why does Khan keep hiring Niners? Baalke after Caldwell? Lol.

Good luck to Meyer. He will have an interesting three years there then it's off into the sunset again. The roster in Jacksonville is really bad. They have huge cap space and obviously they need protection for Trevor Lawrence. Seeing what the Jets have done to Sam Darnald over 3 years is appalling. Worst coaching and roster you can ever imagine. If Meyer really is in control the draft will lean offense and he will build around Lawrence. But the jaguars need help a lot of help.

Zach Orr could be part of Urban Meyer’s first staff with the Jaguars.
According to multiple reports, Orr is interviewing to be the linebackers coach in Jacksonville.
Orr has spent the last four seasons working with the Ravens and was a defensive coaching analyst for the team during the 2020 season. Orr has been part of the Ravens’ organization since making the team as an undrafted free agent linebacker in 2014, but his playing days were cut short when he was diagnosed with a congenital spinal condition that left him at risk for serious injury.
The Jaguars hired defensive coordinator Joe Cullen away from the Ravens, so Orr would be a familiar face for him to work with on the defensive staff.
