We used to get milk, eggs and bread delivered to the back porch twice a week.

Don't forget the diaper service.

How about nurse's cap manufacturing?

Perhaps my memories of EMERGENCY! and Dixie McCall are playing tricks on me, but I seem to remember real-life nurses wearing nurses caps, white dresses, white hose, and those thick-soled shoes back in the early 80's.

Now, those little nurse's caps are only seen on "naughty nurses" on Halloween or in pornographic videos (uhh, so I've heard).

Dry cleaning took a HUGE hit during covid, and while not completely gone it will never recover to the industry it once was.

Speaking of covid - during that time there were services that would come the night before your kid's birthday and fill the yard with signs. Then, day of, all their friends could drive by and wish them a happy birthday while your kid stood in the front drive getting those wishes. THAT is a service that was short lived.

Shoe shines. I only see them in a few major airports anymore. Most folks don't wear such shoes, nor take care of them to that degree.

I built a nice shoe shine kit from Amazon for Son #2 for this Christmas.

I say this with love, and not for the first time...nor the last, but you do realize you aren't "normal", correct?
 I know... it's still the Army in me, and the "taking care of good things" in me. Son #1 was with me the day I picked up a pair of dress shoes I had re-heeled from a GOOD boot shop near us. The owner said, "How long have you had those?" I told him "30 years" and he said "keep doing what you're doing and you'll have them for 30 more." Son #1 got the message and takes care of his cowboy boots properly... Now that Son #2 is in the professional world, he asked me a few weeks ago, "can we talk about how to shine shoes?" So I put this together for Christmas and will show him how to Saddle Soap (Kiwi only for me, because of ingredients they use, no need to spend more $ for saddle soap that then requires you to apply other products... scam!) and shine his shoes. Nice that a few things are getting passed along.

Think I’ve posted this before, but my youngest shines my shoes every Sunday(minus travel days) as part of his chore routine. Finally stopped wearing my game day shoes about two years ago after debuting them in Meyer’s first season. Good quality, taken care of, will last.

But I noticed a decline in shoe shine guys going around to offices well before Covid. Used to have them in our offices every week.
