I believe this is a false dichotomy. Just because you 'want to score first' does not necessarily follow that you should always receive first.
Not al all. Lets just look at our Gators as example. Maybe putting the D out there to get a stop/favvorable field position to score 'first' is best. Helll, we DEPEND on our D to int/score every game.

I sort of liken it if we get a stop on their first drive, we steal a possession and maybe better field position for our meager O. Its sort-of like picking to go second in OT.

I've heard him say 'we want the ball first' as a matter of principle. Okay whatever. We won't do much with it, but dammit, we WILL punt first if Mac has a say, lol

Having said that, I say let him do what he wants.

It is philosophical depending on the coach, some coaches want to score first, some coaches sit down to pee.

I guess Bill Belichick sits to pee according to you, because he defers 96% of the time. I guess it's best you stay behind the keyboard and not actually on the sidelines.

While I understand this line of thinking, your chances of winning increase greatly when you score first. We've scored first in all but one game this year, and oddly enough, it was also the only game in which we didn't get the ball first (ECU). When you can strike first and force the other team to play from behind, it benefits you enormously.

Are you watching MNF? Classic Belichick Boom Boom plan, defers to start the game and manages first half to score right at the end of the First half to go up by 7. Then sure enough they drive and should have scored first drive of second half pretty much putting game away. Unfortunately refs cheated and blew the whistle "inadvertently" to kill the score and make it a game.

I never mentioned Tom Brady. I said Mac's record when scoring first is far, far, far better than when the opponent scores first, so it makes sense that he wants to take the ball to start the game. The numbers support the theory, so I'm not sure where your half brained logic is taking this one.
