I watched the big short yesterday. Pretty good. Batman is a hell of an actor. It's scary what the big banks are capable of.

This is why Trump wants to reinstate Glass Steagall. There is currently no separation between commercial and investment banks. Great movie, horrible that we deregulated so much that it happened.

Took a night away from the kids' slumber parties in my house and ducked out for Star Trek. Per forum suggestion, I watched it in 3D. Good flick, and definitely the best 3D I've seen to date. Recommend it for sure, even for non-Trekkies.

Then snuck across the hall for Suicide Squad, 3D as well just because I'm lucky. I'll admit I don't know the back story, nor much about the characters, but aside from flash-boom-bang the movie felt very much like B actors performing as B characters. Even the star of Will Smith couldn't pull this up much from being very meh. I'll admit, when Diablo finally kicked in and fought, that was pretty cool. I'll admit, the Croc dude....aside from being able to swim and fight underwater, was a total wtf-is-he-here-for type character easily forgotten. I'll admit, Will Smith did well with Deadshot. I was torn between the sexy enchantress and her archologist alter-ego that was not so sexy....but I kept watching. The military leader was a complete dork. I really wanted to like Harley Quinn a bit more, or find her more attractive, but she was an uninteresting type of crazy and the scenes of her with some guy portraying joker were a joke. The Joker actor was C at best, and even as someone with limited DC awareness beyond Batman/Superman/Wonderwoman/Flash.....the writing for Joker was crap, performed as crap.

So, are you saying I shouldn't waste my $5 tomorrow night?

Just saw batman vs superman the other day...somewhere between meh and awful. Rented it on google play and after my flight landed i had 30 minutes left in the movie and it was only a 24 hour rental...i was so uncompelled by it that i never got around to finishing it. Jesse Eisenberg i thought was the only good performance.

My son literally just texted me and said, and I quote:
"It's sooooooo raunchy and the end is absolutely disgusting, but it's hilarious".

He gave it an 8.5 out of 10
The ending is one of the most shocking scenes I've ever seen in a film, animated or not. I laughed till I cried.

Can't wait to see the new Star Trek. I absolutely love the reboot. I think they nailed it with the characters that portray the younger Trek crew.

Huge Trekkie here. I'm even re-watching TOS currently - just watched The Menagerie the other night. Awesome - even by today's standards.

I, too, have enjoyed the reboot. Pine does a credible job as Capt. Kirk, and I would never have guessed anyone could have stepped in and filled Leonard Nimoy's boots as Spock, but Quinto does. That said, I saw the current movie a couple of weeks ago. It was a "meh" for me. The plot made little sense and the exploits of the crew were overdone. It was an OK way to kill a couple of hours - but not the best outing of the franchise, IMO.

If you want to see Quinto at what I believe is his best, watch the first two seasons of American Horror Story.... messed up stuff

Yup - saw it. Agreed - he's a very good actor. I jumped off AHS after season 2 months ago and haven't gotten back on.

By the way, speaking of AHS: He was a couple of years ahead of me, but Dylan McDermott went to my high school. How cool does that make me?? :nerd:

:lmao2:

Briefly back to the 'Sopranos ending' part of our discussion: Give this video a look. Man, it ticks all the boxes on a plausible explanation of the final scene for me. You guys?

Season 3 started slow but picked up decently, season 4 was very hit and miss for me... I haven't watched all of season 5 yet.

Makes sense to me...
Especially if Matthew Weiner is backing it up... he was very involved with Chase during the Sopranos run.
Not to mention Weiner's brilliant 'Mad Men' series...so I'd say I have my closure ...

I watched the Big Short last night. I've long thought that Wall Street was nothing more than a casino where big money types get to gamble with your money. If they win, they keep the profit. If they lose, you pay the bill. That's all it is. Until we fix this BS financial setup we have no long term future, and since these guys own the politicians its going to be quite a challenge. I have a ton invested in my retirement and it scares the hell out of me to think guys like this could lose it all for me.

I recommend you do a little homework with regard to where your money is invested and what the risks are.

That's just the thing though isn't it....who the hell knows where the money really goes when it leaves your hand and goes into some Wall Street asshat's control? Many companies out there that seemingly are in the business of making stuff, flying planes, providing a service, etc are so into the investment game themselves it all gets jumbled up. I don't want to do my own investing so I'm primarily in age based retirement target mutual funds, which sounds pretty safe but after watching that movie and reading some news stories I'm afraid of what will possibly happen one day.
