Well, HE WAS HIRED TO FIX IT! When dafuq is that ever going to happen?
Well now that we have an offensive line, lots of talent at the skill positions and many QBs to choose from hopefully this season.

What's the famous quote...if you have two QBs you have none?

Well my bad...you were saying something about improvement. Sorry. I'll pull a trick from URGs deck...where do you think the D will rank overall? Thanks in advance.
I don't recall asking for rankings....I have asking you what you mean by "greatly improved" in regards to offensive output...Just trying to get an idea of what you are thinking when you say those things...of course you never responded.

You kept asking me to put a number on how far the defense would fall. I did not mean it as a slight. I think I told you I had no idea as far as a number.

I'm just trying to get an idea on what you mean when you say things. You often post predictions with little specificity, so just trying to get a better idea where you're coming from.
I don't ask you to pin point, just give a realistic range, something to extend the discussion on.

Do we need a poll. How far will the defense fall? I'll do it, I don't even need a reason.

Not sure how a guy as smart as Steele predicts us to be that high. I guess all we need is to find a QB, our OC to suddenly become competent and to remain injury free on the OL, DT and LB.
He doesn't show much love to Georgia, compared to Florida. Maybe he considers Eason iffy, like I do. A great arm but all over the place. But he was a baby last year. He must think our QB situation is solved to have us in the top 10, maybe he knows something we don't.

I am also confident that we can beat Michigan. I'm just not confident that we will beat them. Mac is a mixed bag. There's good and bad, so they cancel each other out and you don't know what you have, which is why we have so many pumpers and negators arguing here. This is the year for Mac to finally have more good and bad and show that he is capable of significantly improving this team. Steele obviously thinks he will. I hope he's right.
We're certainly not going to beat them with Appleby like play at QB. We don't have a clue what's going to happen there. Unfortunately, I have more confidence in Little Jim's competancy than Mac's. So far he has outrecruited and out performed this present regime.

Im not sure what the mixed bag part is. It is FLORIDA, the flagship in the most fertile football state. Even the worst recruiter should have classes full of blue chippers knocking at his door and even the worst coaches, like Zook, Chimp and Butters shouldnt lose more than 4-5 fames a year.

Im pretty sure you could fire everyone, choose some random GA from UCF or FIU and have them do the same, a top 10-15 recruiting class and 4-5 losses.

Zook was a great recruiter and Chump built good defenses at least. I do not see a single thing Donkeyteeth does well except lower expectations (ie some of you calling 50th or 80th ranked offenses "progress").

I am confident we can beat Michigan. They do not scare me. We have a good roster.
There is no doubt that Florida can still attract elite athletes. The problem is finding coaches that are capable of doing something with them.
And please, don't bother telling me how we have won the SECeast for the last 2 seasons.
Until we can beat FSU and Alabama, it really doesn't mean squat.

He's accomplished some good, but it's limited. There was the overachieving 2015 season. I didn't think that team had a chance at 10 wins and a division title, but he still pulled it off. The first recruiting class was also impressive, to me anyways, since he only had a handful of recruits and 2 months to fill his class. He's also put forth effort in improving the facilities. Other than the bowl game, his first year was an overall success imo. Year 2 not so much. Disappointing recruiting, lost the streak to UT, blown out by several teams including pathetic Ark, zero improvement on offense, I could go on. The only good things that happened last year was the UGA, LSU, and bowl wins. (I didn't include winning the East because the East stunk, we got destroyed by Bama, and we only won it because UT gave it away)

Last season made 2015 look like a fluke. I think Mac's done some good things, but I'm not confident that he can do them consistently. So far the only thing he's proven he can do well on a consistent basis is make sandwiches.

Here's what Phil Steel had to say about UF:

9. Florida - The Gators offense has been woeful in this new era of college football with just 339 ypg during the decade. This year they are Top 25 at RB, REC and OLine and just need a QB to emerge (and stay healthy) but have some promising candidates. They have a top 15 defense (don’t they always) and my #3 rated special teams. They play just 3 true road games this year (both Georgia & Michigan neutral sites) and none of those are versus a ranked foe. They are my favorite to win the SEC East for a third straight year and if in the SEC Title game are one step from the playoffs.

Phil Steele picks us as the number one surprise team in the country:

This year my #1 Surprise Team is the Florida Gators! Florida has made the last two SEC Title games despite losing their QB to injury both years and having a below average offense. This year the QB will be surrounded by talent at RB, WR, TE and the offensive line. They have 3 possible QB's in Luke Del Rio who looked good to start last year but then was injured. Feleipe Franks is 6'6" 219, has a rocket arm and looks the part, he just needs some experience. I have the Gators my #1 Surprise team with or without this next chip and that is that Malik Zaire seems likely to land here and if he does he could win the job. Last year the defense was hit hard by injuries in the second half of the year and that forced some young players into action. A player like DE Jabari Zuniga will benefit from that and Florida will have their usual Top 10 defense. The Gators have my #3 Special Teams in the country. UF lost out last year when their home game versus LSU was moved but that will benefit them this year as they only have 3 true road games (Kentucky, South Carolina, Vandy). They do face Michigan in the opener but Michigan is one of the least experienced teams in the FBS and it is their first game. They can afford one loss and if they are in the SEC Title game Florida is just one win away from the playoffs. I will call for them to find a QB and an offense and match it up with that defense and special teams unit. With a favorable schedule, this non Top 10 team has a shot at winning it all.

Phil Steele Picks Florida to Win the East

SEC EAST

1. FLORIDA - Jim McElwain has been to 2 straight SEC Title games despite losing his QB mid-season both years. Last year the Gators had to overcome only 3 SEC home games as the LSU game got moved. This year they get LSU at home giving them just 3 true road games vs Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina (none which rank in the top half of the league). All 9 sets of my Power Ratings call for double digit wins this year for the Gators. Last year’s defense was also decimated by injuries, so they are more experienced than the 5 returning starters would indicate. The Gators get my call to get back to their 3rd straight SEC Title game.

Phil's Forecast

OFFENSE -

In '15 UF avg 32.2 ppg with Will Grier at QB but just 16.5 the last 8 without him. Last year they avg'd 464 ypg with a healthy Del Rio at QB, but just 322 ypg the last 11. This year they have 9 ret st'rs and if they can keep their QB healthy, the Gators should have their best ypg this decade (368 is high).

DEFENSE -

The last 9 years Florida has allowed an avg of just 17.6 ppg. Last year they were allowing just 11.7 ppg in the first 7, but then injuries hit and it was 26.6 ppg the last 5 prior to the bowl (16.8 year). This year they have just 5 starters back (57% tkls #94) but will still be strong with 16's injuries making them more experienced than the numbers suggest.

2017 - Jim McElwain took over in 2015 (11-13 prev 2Y) and got them to 2 SEC Title Games. Last year they had their 11 game win streak vs Tenn end, but still won the East. Florida goes from #103 in my Exp Chart up to #64 and the schedule puts them as a prime contender in the SEC. While they draw LSU out of the West, that game is now in "The Swamp." Florida has just 3 true road games and Kentucky (beat them 30 str yrs) is the only one that had a winning record in '16 (7-6). They play Michigan in Wk 1 with the Wolverines having just 5 ret st'rs. All 9 sets of my power ratings call for double-digit wins and that makes them a National Title contender and a Surprise Team.
