I hope he didn't lose another 10 pounds from that 252. I guess he doesn't have any worries now about playing DT.
hopefully he picked up a step, or strengthened and leaned out a little bit. He could be better at this weight...guess we'll see come sept 2

Finally looks like they'll let Cece concentrate on his natural most effective position. He should have a great year if he stays healthy.

Polite dropped 12 pounds and is now at 260?
Is losing weight a new DL strategy?
:wtf:

Which is odd since both the coaching staff and Polite said his weight goal was around 290. They weren't sure he had a chance of reaching it, but it was the goal. I wonder what changed.

If he really is in the 240s by that opening game I would just run right at him and Zuniga a bunch when they are in the game if I was Michigan. That is pretty light to be playing DE against a team like Michigan who runs that power run offense. I wish he was 260 at least.

Brunson up to 230...didn't he come in really light? Will be interesting to see if he can actually play since Randy was sold on him.
I'll take Shannon's word for it on a linebacker.

242 pounds is way too light for an every down DE. Maybe a situational DE. Like Clayton.

Preferably 260 pounds. Up to 280.

If he wants to play in the NFL he will have to be at least 260. At least because he's 6'2. Which means he probably isn't going to be big enough to play that position at the next level.

Your best chance of success at DE in the NFL is probably to be at least be 6'3 and 270 pounds.

depends on their strength. I get the feeling cece isn't going to be weaker because he is lighter. You can be stronger and leaner with the sizes these guys are. Just being a fat ass against strength isn't going to stop strength from winning, especially if he's gained a step.

I wonder if he is trying to add the right weight and losing the bad. Losing fat, gaining muscle, might be a longer road for him than one offseason.

His mom is the the public relations face of the Clay Co. Sheriff's office. I used to run a conference center and worked with her whenever they booked meeting or event space.
That's not a denial.

We have, what, eight of the skinny 3rd down only DEs? I count Sherit, Smith, Clayton, Zuniga, Davis, Jefferson, with Ancrum and Polite teetering on the edge. 240-260 lbs is no place to be when you are going up against 300-320 lb SEC tackles. Form and intensity is great, but you just aren't going to win many battles giving up 60-80 pounds.

Some have to play on running downs. There is no way around it. I hope some of them are up to the task.

It helps you hold your ground some against the bigger guys however. You don't see leaner 270 lb offensive linemen any longer at the top schools. Bama literally shut down everyone's run game last year in non-garbage time. Curious what size DEs they were playing on non obvious passing downs.

I don't want to see DEs holding ground, I want to see them getting at the ball carrier or QB. You aren't going to do that standing there playing handsies with an o linemen

Like I said though, it depends on strength, sure you want a guy with more ass behind him but it doesn't mean crap if he can't move or push anyone around with pure strength. 242 is light, no doubt, but I want to know where his strength (even speed) is at before I make judgement on how he will play at this weight.
