With some time to sit and think while awaiting Irma's arrival, I got to thinking about modern cinema. I don't keep up with a lot of the movies nowadays and I guess it's because there's not much in the way of my favorites, that is, westerns. I find myself watching a lot of older ones to satiate my need for a time when men were seemingly a little tougher, loved only women, and wouldn't accept poor behavior from others.
I'm interested to see who else enjoys these older movies and why you like them along with which ones are favorites and which stars you liked best or identified with. Quite obviously, the Duke was my guy. Bigger than life, always on the right side and stood up for what he believed. He also enjoyed a good time that included some handsome women and pulling the cork! My top five of his movies are:
"I aim to kill you in one minute, Ned, or take you back to Ft. Smith to be hanged at Judge Parker's convenience. Which'll it be?!"
I also like some of Clint Eastwood's pictures as well as Tombstone. 'Josey Wales' and 'Doc Holiday' were both very quotable as well:
"Buzzards got to eat, same as the worm!"
"I'm your huckleberry!" and "Why...Johnny Ringo. You look like somebody just danced over your grave!"
Cowboy movies used to appeal to the man in all of us. I don't know that there's that same level of desire now. Instead of cap guns and holsters for birthdays, boys seem to be getting transformers, $200 sneakers, and in some cases, girl dolls to help them get in touch with their feminine side! Now, it's ok for boys to have dolls, so long as it's G.I. Joe or Johnny West, and part of the play involves them beating the hell out of their sister's Ken and ravishing her Barbies! Alright, I'm digressing now, but please feel free to share where the Cowboys are concerned!
