As we all know, Randy's 'canes is NO Jimmy Johnson version... he's experienced enough to hold the fort down until some ingenuity and discipline arrives. Go Gators!!

If you are in a situation like we are you couldn't ask to have a better guy like Randy Shannon ready to step in. An experienced head coach of a major program and a part of the current staff would not always be available. I don't think Stricklin is even thinking of hiring Shannon as our permanent head coach even if we win out. We need to clean house and start over.

If Shannon gets this thing turned around then he will increase his market presence. Are you listening Tennessee? Ole Miss? UCF and others?

OH heck no.

I agree...as a previous poster said... based on what he did at Miami I would not want to give him a shot, but I thought I saw something at some point where Spurrier mentioned that Shannon is liked a lot and has a shot...

Look, winning out is certainly within reason. We may even be favored the rest of the way out with Sharkhumper no longer driving around with his left foot on the gas.

I'm really interested to see if Nuss was being held back by McElwain somehow. I doubt he was... as you have pointed out since he arrived, he hasn't had success anywhere, but this is his chance to really open up and show if he can do something... if not... we will have the same offense we had before and that means we can lose every game.

Hell, if Randy Shannon goes 4-0 the rest of the way he should win SECCOY! (F*ck Kirby and UGA!!) :D

I think that we were more likely to find is that the administration really pushes for Shannon to stay as DC. I don’t think he’s an option for HC at all. But particularly with a young coach, he can lend a steady hand.

If he is really that well liked and the new coach doesn’t want him on staff, make him an offer to stay in some sort of mentoring capacity for the players. He could help out recruiting and then follow thru once they got on campus. I think we’ve shown that we have a need for that at UF and that need will increase with the number of SE FL kids.

Still trying to wrap my head around this.

Shannon always seemed like a classy dude. He tried to make scUM a cleaner program. Not all the fanbase agreed. Totally weirded out by seeing Randy Shannon on the podium though. So weird.

And yet, Fatazz is gone.

Shannon is definitely a classy dude with high morals. He pegged Shapiro and banned him from the athletic facility long before everything blew up. He is an excellent DC. I, too, am weirded out seeing Shannon on a Gator podium. Regardless, he is a good guy and I wish him the best.
You won't find too many 'Cane fans that have anything negative to say about him other than his HC ability. Do you hope that your new HC keeps Shannon as D?

I actually feel for Shannon. He's been professional in his time in Gainesville, I hope this gig goes well for him and it leads to a Head job somewhere outside of the Swamp.

Or maybe he winds up a holdover for the next HBC? The defense is young and has had major injury issues, plus not much help from the offense (as usual). I don’t think their struggles are due to poor coaching.

People blaming Shannon for this defense are clueless.

We havent recruited DTs or inside LBs for four damn years.

I like the 3 young bucks we brought in at tackle. I'm actually far more concerned with the linebackers. We lack that
stud in the middle like a Spikes, Siler, Bostic etc. Bringing Mike P home can change that.

I still don't understand why they didn't move Riles over. He's not a good guard, but can give us a few decent snaps at DT.
