We are also installing a very different offense and he could be a wildcard and help out with whatever group is the furthest behind. He certainly knows the offense and what Mullen wants. He gets a 10th coach on the 8th (?), so maybe this is what he wanted.
How many former guys does he need? He already has two in Billy G and John H. Plus himself. Maybe it makes sense to bring him in as a Offensive "Quality Control" / Special Teams coach. You get a guy with ST's experience to focus on STs and he provides a sounding board for the offense :dunno: Time will tell. ST's play has as much to do with competent coaching as it does with quality depth the latter being something he should have more of at UF.

For sure UF ought to attract better coaches than MSU can have ... UF deserves better.

You have to hire great coaches but you also have to hire coaches you are comfortable with that can coach your philosophy.

Bingo! Greg Knox has been with Mullen for 9 years and is a trusted assistant coach with a great track record.

Yes, of course, winning 9 games in the west at low-attractive MSU, Starkeville, requires for sure a very good CEO who has put together supporting coaches to somewhat 'develop' over time. Still, that doesn't mean 'innately' better
coaches cannot be elsewhere. Point taken = DM feels he can be more sure about those coaches that have been cogs in DM's smooth operating CFB-machine. Best hope is that if a coach is discovered-uncovered to not "have it", that friendship, won't allow him to hang around. In this business, friendship can help, friendship can hurt, but as recently seen gutlessness can hurt a CEO the worse. :D

Knox isn't being asked to coach WR and hadn't since 2008 (pre Mullen).
ST's are equal parts coaching and talent. Knox will have far better talent at UF.

Perhaps you should have applied for Coach Mullen's job since you think you are such an expert on hiring assistant coaches you have never worked with personally.

I consider the transition factor, making the step up to UF with the hope and expectation to hit the ground running, It would seem familiarity with the coaches would be a plus and would help decrease the transitional curve. I'm not for or against anyone, I just understand the thinking behind having some familiar coaches. Either way, they are professionals and should be able to accomplish the job. One would hope, anyway.

I still don't get everyone being impressed with MSU winning 8 games not 9 they won 8 games during the regular season. They never play power 5 teams out of conference so that's 4 cupcakes every year and their cross rival is Kentucky, so they basically have 5 very easy wins every year. They only beat 2 Sec teams with a winning record in conference in 9 years which means they probably had like 15-20 chances to get a win and only got 2.

Change MSU to Vandy. Pretty much the same thing.

Yeah, I remember all those times Vandy was in the SECCG.
Well MSU was only in one. Both have been the cellar dwellers of their respective divisions. Actually if Franklin has stayed, Vandy may have made a couple SECCG’s

So you are awarding Vandy some SECCGs?

MSU also tied or finished 2nd in the west numerous times.
