late 1980's without the artificial turf.....for reference....

...and the voice of David Steele.
We would play touch football on that field in the mid-80s on Sundays and yes, hard as a rock. But it made this slow white guy a little faster.
It would also turn your socks green from the “paint” on the “grass”. Good times.

Hard surfaces and seams. Wendell Davis' career was ended when he tripped over one at Veteran's Stadium. Practically ripped the patella right off.
Wikipedia:

His career effectively ended on October 10, 1993, in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. While planting his feet to catch an underthrown deep ball from QB Jim Harbaugh, his cleats got stuck in the Astroturf at Veterans Stadium. The force of being pulled back to the ground was so severe that it completely severed the patella tendon in each of his knees. Doctors later found his kneecaps had been pushed all the way into his thighs. He spent several months in a wheelchair, with his legs encased in casts from thigh to ankle.

I knew this would trigger the usual suspects.

If Harballs didn't suck he would have never been injured.

I got to run around on that turf in the summer of '89 and could not believe how hard it was.

I played soccer on that in the late 70s. I swear it was a thin layer of turf with concrete right beneath it. Nobody slid tackle anyone that day. If you fell ... you lost skin and got bruised bad. I have no idea how they played football on that field.

We used to play pick up games on Sunday on Florida field in the mid-80's..and after the Porpoise closed for the night (after playing rolly polly fish heads of course) we would sneak onto Florida Field at 2am and play frisbee.

To stop puddling from rain, the field had this crown to hit that allowed the water to flow to the sidelines. You were literally running slightly down hill if you ran from the middle of the field to the sidelines.

But yes, Ox, the field was hard as a rock.

My first thought was it looks like Auburn.

They also don’t have orange endzones...just plain grass with auburn painted :lmao:

Can’t wait for the next it looks like (insert team that has endzones that look nothing like this)

I remember playing on the turf in 1983 when I was living in the Murphree dorms. It was like playing on green concrete also the crown of the field was so steep if you stood on one sideline and looked across you couldn’t see anything below the knees of someone on the opposite sideline.

I don't mind the painted end zones one bit, but there is a visceral response of disgust and disappointment within my entire being every time I see that damn font.

Well, it looks just like Boise State, especially with the font:
