I wonder how talented our roster would be if all the kids who dreamed of playing at Florida actually came to Florida.

Additionally, not sure winning the state is consistently possible like it used to be. Too many schools have ins now and the state of Florida doesn’t have the same state pride as a place like Texas - recruits don’t necessarily feel the same pressure to stay here.

I understand that, but I'm really saying we need to get our "fair share". We need to get 10-12 of the top 60 or so, not 4 or 5. That's inexcusable. It's also inexcusable we haven't landed an IMG kid (although Bleich did play there as a junior). If we got 10-12 of the top 60, then tacked on a few of the 61-150 kids we'd be fine. Then you fill the class w/ out of state kids. But if you look back at the best UF classes, they are made up of 80% Florida HS kids. If a Percy or Chris Leak or Brandon Spikes wants to come, sure - by all means. But spending time out of state is a gamble.

Our staff spent a bunch of time on the west coast right after they got here. They even went to Hawaii and made a few offers. It is odd (and imo, a waste of time). I've said this a million times in this thread, "Win the state, win championships". As it stands, we will be lucky to sign 5 of the top 50 Florida kids (several of the top 50 are IMG kids, so if you throw those out, we get 4 of the top 35 or so - Sanders is an IMG kid who I think we get). This staff should be at every Florida HS like they worked there! Staff, staffers, whoever the hell is allowed! Stop going to California - unless the kid specifically recruits us (like Jesse Palmer or Rex Grossman did). The only states we should be hitting are the southeast states (Georgia specifically).

Other than skill players such as CB, WR, and QB – I don’t know many West Coast kids that produce as well as Florida kids. I guess maybe RB?

Those guys are in our footprint and should be recruited heavily by UF. We have had a lot of success going op to the Carolinas, Virginina, DC, and even the NY/NJ area. Anywhere in the SE and even east coast needs to be our footprint with a much heavier focus on FL and GA as our main grounds. You obviously have to recruit the country and if you have ties to a guy on the west coast sure go after them but we shouldn't be spending weeks at a time having coaches scouring the west coast.

If you run north in the winter flashing that tan and showing pictures of your palm trees and pool, maybe some post cards of hot chics on the beach or lying by pool at student housing, its going to be exciting to most kids in the snowbelt.

I have no idea what we sell to Cali kids or why we want them anyway.

I don’t think anyone disagrees with this expectation. Regarding IMG... those kids should count against the state they originated from. It skews the perceived success of other schools in the state of Florida. I do agree that we should land some of them but they aren’t typical Florida HS kids.

I've noticed that whenever a top recruit says UF is his "dream school" it ends up being a nightmare for us. o_O

We need to start pulling some DL's stat!

Florida recruiting Miami commit Renato Brown
Dent isn’t the only Palm Beach Central player being recruited by the Gators.

Florida also is pursuing Miami defensive tackle commit Renato Brown, who attended the Orange & Blue Game on April 14.

“It was kind of nice,” Brown told SEC Country. “I enjoyed my time on campus. The coaches talked to me about how the atmosphere has changed and I totally saw that during the game and practice.

“Florida has a lot behind it with the culture and the tradition. The stadium is amazing and packed. I think Coach Mullen has them heading in the right direction.”

Brown said he communicates most with Gators wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales, who serves as his area recruiter. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman also likes the coaching style and personality of defensive line coach Sal Sunseri.

“He’s a cool dude and he’s kind of funny,” Brown said of Sunseri. “His vibe is fun. The lessons he was teaching in practice, I was paying attention and remembered a couple of them. He was talking about how to finish and how to attack in the backfield.”

Brown said he plans to take official visits this summer and wants to check out Alabama and Penn State.

Have the Gators cemented themselves as a finalist?

“Somewhat,” Brown said, “but Miami will always be home and the crib. My mom said she really liked it at Florida, though.”

Yeah, no one in Cali gives a shyt about the SEC. If they do have an opinion, it is probably negative.

Hell, very few people in Cali care about college football at all.

I'm surprised this is a free article on rivals:

Gator Recruiting Chomps: May 3

https://florida.rivals.com/news/gator-recruiting-chomps-may-3

Official visits set, new offers extended, and Florida coaches back on the road, there is plenty to talk about. Here is a recap of the top headlines around Florida recruiting on May 3.

OFFICIAL VISIT SET

Florida is expecting another top playmaker this summer for an official visit. Four-star defensive back Bobby Wolfe
is slated to visit the Gators on June 1. The Texas native is set to announce his decision at the Opening Finals.

ON THE TRAIL

The Florida coaches are back on the trail on Thursday. As Corey Bender reported in Bender's Blog this morning, tight ends coach Larry Scott is set to visit four-star defensive end Lloyd Summerall.
A visit to Auberndale High School is not the only visit on deck for the staff.

That is where the staff will be on Thursday, however, who have they already seen?

https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/jeremiah-payton-180023

Charlton Warren continues his trek around Duval County this week. Warren was in to see four-star Miami pledge,
Jeremiah Payton
on Wednesday during his trip around the area. In addition to his stop at Fletcher High School, Warren also checked in with several underclassmen including a recruit that is related to Gators great, Percy Harvin.

2020 wide receiver Xavier McGriff
has already picked up offers from UNC and Ole Miss this week, and is one to watch moving forward. While at Baldwin, Warren also checked in on 2019 offensive tackle, Howard Allen
. Allen holds offers from Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Nebraska and South Carolina.

Todd Grantham has also been busy on the road. The Florida defensive coordinator was in South Florida on Tuesday to check in on Miami (Fla.) Gulliver Prep defensive end, D'Sean Perry
. Auburn, Duke, Virginia, Maryland and Syracuse are some of the other schools that have offered the South Florida native. He visited UF back in the spring and is set to visit the Cavaliers this summer.

SUMMER VISIT IN THE WORKS

After picking up an offer from Florida on Tuesday, McKinnley Jackson
is already planning a summer visit. The 2020 four-star defensive tackle told GT that he had a "good feeling about coach Mullen" since he was at Mississippi State. More from McKinlley here

NEW OFFERS

The Gators offered a pair of teammates on Wednesday, linebacker/defensive end Jordan Banks
and defensive tackle Jordan Berry. The 2020 prospects hail from Harbor City (Ca.) Narbonne. Banks also holds an offer from Utah, while Berry holds offers from the likes of Arizona, Boston College, Georgia, Oregon State, UCLA and USC.

Florida also entered the race for a Rivals100 wide receiver, Kyle Ford.

https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/kyle-ford-32751

Ford told GT's Corey Bender that he is already in talks with Florida about setting up an official visit. As with many California prospects, USC has the attention, however, Ford claims no favorites at this time.

Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, UCLA, Mississippi and Oregon have also offered the four-star playmaker.

Any one know if we are after any grad transfers? I see Denzel Ware is leaving Kentucky. I always thought he was a pretty good player and with the CeCe injury and uncertainty it would make sense to bring him for insurance.

We had a DL from WVU in earlier this spring. Haven't heard much since. Ware would be great, he had 6.5 sacks last year. He just announced so who knows?

Well, at least we came in a close second again!

Yeah, no sh*t!!

Hopefully we get Zipperer and we'll be fine at TE. I'm curious if both of our TE signees stay at TE. We lose 2 seniors at TE this year, so we'll be thin there (and Raymond is playing there as well). Gamble hasn't lived up to his 4-star billing, so far.

Isn’t this the younger brother of the Dwags QB?
