Much respect to BMF and CGgater but Matt Elam was no primadonna. He was 17 and making the biggest decision of his young (and very tough) life. He did not grow up longing to play for the Gators. He met Urban as a young kid and wanted to play for him. There was a lot of confusion for him at the time. He also had an older brother who had been through the recruiting game himself and was an NFL player. He was educated on both sides of the game and wanted to make sure he made the best decision for himself.

For clarification, I didn't call Matt Elam a primadonna. I was discussing Zipperer, who is a primadonna. Honestly, I didn't closely follow recruiting back then...because it wasn't an issue (UF getting good players), it is now...so I follow it more as it's a concern of mine.

The only recruiting I've been following is this thread and this is what I have in addition to the 15 we have committed:
Rush: Lloyd Summerall 4* Gators 67%
RB: Nay'quon Wright 4* Gators 92%
TE: Keon Zipperer 4* Gators 85%
OL: Kamaar Bell 4* Gators 100%
DB: Kaiir Elam 4* Gators 92%

That's not a bad 20.

Plus guys that have been mentioned as in the mix:

DL: Derek Hunter 4* FSU UGA 22%
3* Star: Aaron Beasely UT
4* DB Chris Steel decommitted from USC
4* RB Mark Anthony Richards CB Miami
3* CB Marcus Banks deocmitt LSU
5* DE Kayvon Thibodeaux
5* WR Ford out of Cali.
4* SDE Nathan Pickering
5* DT Georgia commit Travon Walker
4* WDE Khris Bogle Miami
4* CB Trent McDuffie

We may finish second with all these guys but at least we are aiming high.
I don't know. Call it youthful exuberance but I'm holding my breath for a top 10 class. If we win out maybe we have a shot.

Add Egobe (sp?) - Alabama commit.

Add WR TJ Jones (from Columbia) - he's apparently waiting for the green light. We may not take another WR in the class, or a JUCO (which I'd rather we hold off if that's the case).

Add OL Hammond, teammates of Zip & Sum. He's been an FSU lean, but got two CB's to UF this week.

Does he look as good as Ronald Powell did against Cali opponents?

I will probably be happy if we land them just bc of the momentum.

I'd be a lot MORE happy if we didn't have 1 kid in the Florida top 50.

I understand your Cali angst. I have it too. But I'll take Steele any day. I agree w/ you on the Florida part. If we get back to being the big dog in Florida, and stop losing these kids to UGA, Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Auburn, etc then we'll be "back" to being among the elite programs. At that point we can start cherry picking kids from outside the SE. In the meantime, taking back the state should be our top priority.

He was listed as the #1 player in the freakin country and he was never even the #1 end on our team. And too slow to be a LB.

He had some numbers, sacks. Just not the #1 player by any stetch of the imagination. He was Polite-lite. Cali 5 star= 3star. He was a solid upper 3 star.

Ronald led the team in sacks as an underclass men in 11’. Then he tore up his knee in the 12 spring game . DQ in particular talked how big of a loss it was for us . The injury was a setback for him. LTraz is correct that Ronald was a good (not great ) player for us.

Thanks...it always bothered me whenever Matt was referred to as such.

As far as the Zipp and others. It is hard for us old timers to even begin to understand how different millennials and younger have been raised. They have never NOT known social media. Facebook, IG and Snapchat is all about how amazing everyone’s life is. It’s about sharing everything with everybody. It’s all about the “story”. These kids being recruited are just an even more public experience. They could not care less what us old dudes think about it because they can’t even fathom that there is anything wrong about it. All they know is all their peers can’t wait for the video release or the hats on the table routine. They are also NOT enjoying the process as much as they appear. Many hate the experience of grown men stalking them 24-7.

It doesn’t bother me anymore. I have 3 kids between 24 & 27. I’m “friends” on all their social media and occasionally I will still say .....”Really....you really felt the need to share THAT?” But i’m over it for the most part. I just find most of it humorous now. Society has changed and we’re not going back to my Father’s day where many shared absolutely nothing.

Marine1, please understand much of my posts can be laced with sarcasm. I’ll admit I’m part of the crowd that’s not thrilled with the “look at me” players, but I also recognize these kids still have some growing up to do. Most of us did when we were their age.

Anyway, my main point was that for all the “do we want this kid?” comments on here about Elam, we were all thrilled to have him once the ink was dry. Same will happen if Zip signs with the good guys.

Edit: There was plenty of drama surrounding Elam’s commit status, I believe in large part because urbs announced his brief retirement. There were plenty who thought Elam was seeking attention, but I believe the potential instability caused cold feet syndrome.

That's funny about social media. I have a 26 year old son who doesn't use social media at all. I have 3 nieces and one of them is out of control on it.

Zipperer just needs to commit already. The "Chuckie" doll is so stupid. But, if he commits and scores 100 TDs over the next 3+ years all is forgiven!! :D
