Ah the myth that if someone is rich, they must not give back at all. :rolleyes3:

Check out some of his charitable work, mainly his Challenged Athlete Foundation and his efforts to help youths with stuttering problems if you’re not too triggered to discover the truth.
Haters gotta hate. I read most of the books about him and his last book. Real decent man and passionate about life. Homer for the west coast no doubt. He loved the old man and old man loved him. Btw the old man was a serious NATIONAL TREASURE..........read some of his stuff.

I saw Bill Walton at the Denver airport last year. He could barely walk.

Ahhhh..... the hypocrisy of the capitalism hating socialist millionaire. His words not mine. He hates capitalism. Yet he uses it to make lots of money and live a very nice life as a 1%er.

BTW, lots and lots of people who understand and appreciate how capitalism has benefitted them greatly give lots and lots of money to charity. Just because he donates to charity doesn't make him any less of a hypocrite.

So you’re saying he should give away every penny and live as a bum?

Can't stand Bill Walton. I'd rather listen to Beth Mowins.

He's a little weird. I disagree if y'all are saying he's bad at calling games. I think he gives good analysis. He sounds like he's rambling some times. Yeah he's really laid back and maybe he smokes pot. But who is he hurting? He's just calling basketball games.
There's a lot of bad announcers out there. Walton is a lot better than a long list of annoying, dumb announcers.

I get that it's a message board and that opinions are like @$$holes. Everybody has one. But let's get real here. Good analysis?!

My opinions:

I too, would much rather listen to Beth Mowins. I can't stand either one of their commentary. Both have incredibly annoying voices, but Walton is just insufferable.

Walton does sound like he's stoned or drunk and makes little sense half the time.

He also doesn't enunciate well for a sports broadcaster.

Again, all opinions.

Now for the facts:

While he does know a lot, it's generally a lot about nothing. It adds nothing to the game he's supposed to be commentating on.

I can't tell you how many times I watch games that this guru is commentating on, and incredible play after incredible play happens and nothing is said about the game we are watching because he's gone off on some tangent about something that happened to him 30 years ago that has nothing to do with anything! It's nearly two hours of commentary with maybe 10 minutes on the actual game we watched. Ridiculous.

Talk about the game you are broadcasting, Bill! That is what you're supposed to be doing. It's your job!

I don't care that he once was an amazing basketball player. That's not his job now.

I take great pride in triggering the righty snowflakes on this site (and there are a LOT of you), but I didn’t think Bill Walton would be such a violent trigger. All you need to hear is California and liberal and you’re foaming at the mouth. :lol2:

Says the biggest lefty snowflake on this board.

And FWIW, I am neither. I hover near the middle, but still keep my political opinions to myself.

He does babble over good plays that deserve comment tribute. He makes the game superfluous while making announcing superfluous.?? I just tune him out.

You are greatly mistaken, my friend. Kicking you guys around is my favorite pastime.

Perhaps what they heard was "high" and "irrelevant". Also, perhaps they were surprised to learn that those characteristics were indicative of any political persuasion.

I remember watching the NCAA Championship Final 1973 between Memphis State and UCLA. I was really pulling for Memphis State who had the tandem of Larry Finch and Larry Kenon (Special K). Memphis State was the underdog, the David going against the Goliath, your Bill's Filler-Up versus Exxon, the South versus California. As everyone knows Bill Walton had one of the greatest performances ever In that game. It was something to watch. He was unstoppable.

The way I feel about Walton is this. I don't really care what Walton's beliefs or politics are when I consider him as a basketball player. He's an interesting guy no doubt. He was one of the best when he was at his best. It's the same way I look at musicians. Who cares what their politics are when you are just considering them as athletes or musicians. Only when they enter the political forum does that matter.

Terrorists. Their plan was to kill all the rich (white) people.

The had no other plans.

Not sure how you paint it in any other way.

Like the KKK. This is no civic group who also baked brownies for the homeless or whatever.

They planned on killing as many people as the could. In the name of socialism.

Yeah, but he donated to a charity, so he’s a national treasure.

That's Micki and Jack Scott, known SLA sympathizers, to Walton's right. Scott authored a book on Walton in the NBA.

Walton's involvement in the Hearst investigation, for example, was all about this brewing culture war, centering not on evidence germane to the case but on his "activist lifestyle." All radicals knew each other, right? When Walton was questioned by the FBI (he drove from Portland to San Francisco for the meeting), news reports noted that he had once been arrested for participating in an anti-war sit-in and had made "anti-American" statements about being overpaid by the Trail Blazers. "I couldn't spend that much in a lifetime," he said of his $2 million-plus contract. "I'll tell you one thing: I won't invest it in United Fruit Company. I don't believe in capitalism... I believe wealth should be spread around."

Walton didn't invest in United Fruit, but he did amass a net worth now estimated at $20 million.
