Thoughts on Phil Steele?
He fails. He is a straightup numbers guys, returning starters is his preferred stat. Its why he often picks Kintucky as a surprised team and fails 90% of the time.

Last year he had Tinerc winning the East right? Because returning starters right?

Meanwhile, Michigan fans continue to give us no credit and say we have no chance against a "Don Brown Defense"
Well, 2003, 2008 and 2015 wins against us gives them that right.

Until Florida can beat them on the field we'll continue to get no respect.

What you - and most every other person who doesn't have a bookie or an online sportsbook account - does not realize: everything Phil Steele does is based on betting/wagering/gambling. So if he says "Kentucky will be a surprise team" he means AGAINST THE SPREAD. So, he's likely predicting Kentucky to have enough of a team/talent that they'll do well vs. the spread. It's about gambling and his "numbers" help make those assessments. He's not an Athlon's, Sporting News, Lindy's or other "preview" magazines.

Isn't he one of the more accurate guys around? And aren't we missing 90% of defensive returning starters?

Who do you prefer over Steele?

BMF hit the nail on the head, most of what steele predicts should be placed in the context of betting spreads. When he picks a team, its usually picking to cover or beat the spread, not necessarily win, or lose for that matter. when he says suprise team, it means one that beats the spread more often than not, and that doesnt necessarily include winning.

Steele predicted us as a darkhorse playoff team....

I'm not saying I agree and would go quite that far as of right now, but it does give slightly more optimism.

And all this is predicated on Zaire or even Franks going off in fall camp, and what I have read, that isn't the case at all.

Exactly...Unless something changes in the next 2 weeks...Things are not sounding pleasant from the practice reports. No one is pushing the other. They all have been mediocre at best.
This will surely garner a dislike from urg and a bunch of "dumpers are praying for LDR and for the gators to fail" responses but I'll say it anyway because its what I firmly believe. Unless play from the OTHER ones improve, LDR is just going to get sent back in. It's what most any coach would do. If you have a bunch of crap on your roster, but one of the turds has a decent amount of experience while the others none, you generally start off with the experienced turd. He could get yanked quickly if he continues del-rioing but its plausible they start off with him. And no pumps, this is NOT what I want; its just what I think is plausible.

I think only a crazed coach would send someone in with LDR's skill set against the type of defense Michigan plays. It could possibly be Driskel v Missouri 2014 all over again.

News flash fev, while we think del rio stinks worse than week old garbage, both Mac and Nuss like him and think he's a good qb, but more importantly, an experienced qb and its no secret mac puts a premium on experience at the qb position. I'm telling you, if at least one of the others doesnt consistently outperform del rio, we're probably going to see him on the field.

Definitely plausible, I just don't think it's likely. Exactly what date did Frank's step on campus? January 2016? He has had plenty of time to get coached up and be pretty dang familiar with the playbook. Almost 2 years for a blue chipper seems like a "guru" should have him whipped into shape.

Prove it this year or gtfo of my program! I'm so freaking sick of getting pumped up and deflated year after year. I'm feeling the excitement and buzz and have hope for a good season. But this will definitely be my last as a pumperish person if my bubble is popped yet again.

I agree, but have you not heard the practice reports? Time or not, it still sounds like the qbs suck. It's early, but it doesnt sound good as of now.

I've heard conflicting practice reports. My pumper side says it a strategy to throw meatchicken off. My dumper side says :banghead:. I'm rooting for :pumper: though so I'll just :drunk:

Accurate for what? Once in ten years he accurately picked a team (Washington)?

He is kind of like the sabermetric dude for NCAAF. Interesting, and he certainly gets plenty of air time, like 24/7, but I certainly don't consider him accurate.

Too many questions...QB, o line, DT, LB...the offense...the defense. Surprisingly, we had a pretty damn good defense the last two years...talent-wise.

Playoffs? Not sure this even deserves the Mora gif.
