A few more of Tennessee’s offensive linemen sat out the Vols’ first preseason practice in full pads Friday night.

After confirming that junior offensive tackleChance Hall will undergo season-ending knee surgery, Tennessee coach Butch Jones said freshman offensive lineman Trey Smith, fifth-year senior offensive lineman Brett Kendrickand sophomore offensive tackle Marcus Tatumall were held out of the Vols’ practice Friday evening inside Neyland-Thompson Sports Center.

Jones said Smith, Kendrick and Tatum will “all be back,” adding that their injuries are “nothing significant,” and some of them could return as early as Saturday.

I'm excited about the size of the freshmen, too. However, hand technique and leverage with have a lot to do with their early success or struggle on the interior. At a minimum though, rotating fresh bodies is still a huge help.

Of course. Weight isn't everything or Mike and Desir would be playing at DT.

However, hopefully the easy games aren't close and we can afford to play the freshmen to get some experience and to take the reps off our poor two starting DTs.
