Deadpool 2 - I'll start this off by saying if you didn't like the first one you won't like this and if you liked the first one you will like it. It goes in a little different direction this go around I would say and starts out with a bit of a shocker. Lots of inside jokes for those that follow the comics. Also has some blink and you'll miss them cameos, two of which are from pretty big names.

Violent and cuss words galore which is what you would expect. Also does a good job of not recycling to many of the same old gags that worked in the first film. There were only a few I noticed where they went that direction. Josh Brolin's Cable is a solid character, but unfortunately it comes right behind his portrayal of Thanos and it doesn't quite live up to that. The rest of the main cast is round out with some that you saw in the first movie and his new team X-Factor, which makes for some of the funnier parts of the movie. Also a big reveal of a X-Men baddie that was done pretty well. Stay for the end credit scenes as they are also very good.

All in all its a solid follow up to the first one. Some of the shock and awe has worn off so its not quite as good, but still a good flick if you liked the first on. 7/10

      October: I just want out.

October: Out of the city. Out of the life.

October: With someone I can trust.
Vincent Brazil: Trust to do what?
October: Light a candle for me when I'm gone.

Deadpool 2 (2018): A lot of the lover of red-headed women said above. it was a solid entry, but thought it lacked something from the first movie. Still enjoyable, and still funny. It's worth a watch but not as good as the first one. 7/10.

Black Panther (2018): I'm not going to go into detail with this one because it was beat to death earlier this year. It's a solid movie and follows the comic fairly well. A one of the few really good Marvel villains with a relatable vision. 8/10.

        Deadpool 2

As others have noted, not as good as the first but still solid if you are a fan. Personally, I knew very little of the character before the first film and learned of a main trait being speaking to the audience directly...a bit over played in this one, IMO. As for Brolin as Cable, I didn't feel his Thanos overshadowed this character that much...they stood on their own pretty well, IMO. Though, I'll be honest, I thought Thanos was very well done, and Cable came across as softer than I expected (and I know virtually nothing of the Cable character heading into this film). Agree with 7/10 assessments.

The other thought I had was that my son is 9 and he's been catching up on most Marvel films. I was borderline on letting him watch Deadpool given the language (a LOT worse than other films), violence (not too much more than other Marvel films), and following the storyline. Deadpool 2 is absolutely NOT for him.

I remember watching Predator and all the Jaws movies with my dad when I was 5 and 6. There is absolutely no way my five year old would make it through those movies.

I'm starting to get here myself. So far all of the movies with avengers in them or spiderman my son has scene along with the old Christopher Reeve superman movies and adam west Batman. I would think around 8-9 would be a good time to start the X-Men and Batman movies, with Logan and the Deadpool movies being down the road from that.

The DC movies are saved for punishment.

Solo- liked it. Far better than Force Awakens and Battle of Hoth part2/Return Jedi.

Not sure what people dislike. He is supposed to be a smuggler and a thief. His background has to be dirty. Some of the criticisms of plot developments seem forced given the hilarious plot oddities of the other films.

Solo - Went with my wife, son and daughter-in-law. We all loved it. It was fun, interesting plot with a few good twists in it and some nice ties to the main films. Big surprise at the end. Not sure, but seems to point to a sequel or a series spin-off. One friend noted “Its like a good “Pirates” movie in the Star Wars universe.” I think that’s fair. Not quite as good as Rogue One but pretty close. It does a nice job of showing why he’s cynical, resourceful, a risk taker, etc.

Apparently there is a pretty vocal Star Wars subculture out there that thinks they own the franchise and that the writers, producers and even George Lucas must conform to their expectations. They actually drive ratings down on Rotten Tomatoes.

Im way more cynical. The last two Star Wars movie were straight crap but got good ratings bc they had a fat Asian women being shown as a warrior, a black fighter pilot beating the new Vader with a lightsaber having never touched one before. Not to mention totally emo millenial whiny, wimpy Vader junior.

Little doubt in my mind if they had made Lando gay and switched Han to be female, they would have received outstanding reviews.

Ready Player One - in the future the world is a little crappier than it is now. A genius creates a world where you can go to get away from real life. When he dies is hides clues in it so that anyone who solves the puzzles gets his fortune. Naturally the regular people are racing to stop the evil corporations from getting there first. After five years no one found any and that leads to the start of the movie.

Visually this movie is amazing and I lost track of all the pop culture references and characters that showed up in the film. You name them and they are probably there.

The plot was good enough and the majority of the cast was solid with a few of them standing out above others. The guy who plays the creator is a extremely solid actor.

Video game cleavage but no boobs shown or harmed. 7/10

Battle of the Sexes - about the Bobby Riggs VS Billie Jean king match. Was before my time so not sure on the accuracy. Did show how he didn’t train and hit on parts of her life. Was a little underwhelmed. 5/10

Game Night - Stars Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams and Kyle Chandler. Rest of the cast is a bunch of people I've never scene before and few people that always pop up in small parts to be scary guys. Movie centers around a couple (Bateman and McAdams) and how they love games. They host game night weekly with their close friends, while their creepy neighbor hopes to be invited. Basically his crazy brother (Chandler) comes to town and decides to host and ramp it up a notch. Things spiral out of control and get crazy.

Not an award winner, but has enough laughs in it that you and the wife can watch togethor and walk away feeling like you didn't waste your time. I would give it around a 6.5 our of 10 and I think McAdams reactions to things steal the show in this one.

No boobs are shown or harmed in this film.

I had read an article that pondered what Lincoln's voice might have sounded like back in the day.
They quoted several newspaper writers that commented on his Gettysburg Address and said he delivered it in a kind of nasally high pitched twang.

"...certainty is that Lincoln was a tenor.
Lincoln’s voice, as far as period descriptions go, was a little shriller, a little higher,” says Holzer. It would be a mistake to say that his voice was squeaky though. “People said that his voice carried into crowds beautifully. Just because the tone was high doesn’t mean it wasn’t far-reaching,” he says."

I thought Daniel Day Lewis did a fantastic job...

A couple more I’ve watched recently

Jumanji - the new one. Very entertaining and can be for the whole family. I like the few references back to the robin Williams movie also. 7/10

Molly’s Game - Jessica Chastain is a smoke show this entire movie. This is the one about the lady who ran the big money poker games. Just back and forth between the current time and the last as she tells the story to the lawyer. Even though most the celebrities that were part of this have been named they still kept it as player X in the movie. That being said a quick google search can tell you who each asshat is in real life for the most part. That being said the flashbacks are far more interesting.

I never knew she was Jeremy Blooms brother, the Olympic skier and football player at Colorado before the NCAA screwed him. It glosses over that stuff. It’s good, but preview made it look much better. At 2.5 hours at times I got a little bored so they could have cut it down some. 6.5/10
