Question for the legal people (or anyone else that may know)...

Is it normal for police departments to redact information but still leave the victim's name visible? I guess I've never really paid attention until now with the BS that comes out of that particular department, just curious if this is normal behavior. Obviously I know redacting info during pending investigations happens all the time, just seems really f*cked up to continue to publish women's names who are accusing someone of hitting them.
It varies with policy. One could frame it as all under investigation. For instance, if they claim they can't print DeAndre or Dalvin's name because they haven't investigated enough to know if a crime was committed then why print the female's name if they haven't investigated enough to know if there was a victim of the same crime.

Usually, things are either sealed or completely redacted, or unsealed and completely unredacted (with the exception of PII). I find it amazing that they list all the PII of the victims. Seems to set them up for lawsuit. We always redact that even if the investigation is complete.

Perhaps they feel the juice is worth the squeeze.

What do FL statutes say about publishing victim names? What crimes is there a prohibition? I saw where The US Supreme Court overturned a lawsuit against a newspaper in FL years ago because the info came from the PD who who had it with their public info accidently. That case was based off that statute about victims of sexual assault I think.

I don't know. I don't practice in Florida and only had passing knowledge of the Sunshine laws as a student.

The AG's office has a manual here. https://myfloridalegal.com/webfiles.n...eLawManual.pdf
Knock yourself out.

Page 91 doesn't look particularly promising for TPD, but I don't have time to read the whole thing, the statutes, and interpreting cases.

Here's what I find puzzling. The Semis were an all girls school for decades, yet it appears that women are treated like second class citizens over there. You would think the opposite would be true.

For those saying "No video, no punishment". Fill me in here. Several eyewitnesses are disregarded nowadays if there is no video?

It's from the 'Goodell-ian' method of impartial justice - from the mindset of "it's just a little altercation - two games suspension for Mr. Rice".

And then the elevator video reared its head.

"Well then - in light of this new video evidence we knew nothing about (that essentially backs up what we already knew...) we are kicking him out of the league (because of the public perception)".

It was a freakin' casino - they have cameras EVERYWHERE! How did Goodell's office not ask for the video?
