(continued):

4-star OL Richard Gouraige, Tampa, Fla.

Richard Gouraige is ranked as the nation’s No. 10 offensive tackle and No. 100 overall prospect. (Sam Spiegelman/SEC Country)
  • It may be just a matter of time before Gouraige commits to the Gators. Florida became his No. 1 school in the spring and remains atop his leaderboard. Gouraige told SEC Country that UF assistant Brad Davis is the college coach he’s closest with. Auburn and LSU are also on his radar, but neither program appears to be posing a threat to Florida. Gouraige does not know when he will decide.
4-star S Amari Burney, Clearwater, Fla. (Florida commit)

Amari Burney is ranked as the nation’s No. 10 safety and No. 113 overall prospect. (Zach Abolverdi/SEC Country)
  • Burney has shut down his recruitment after joining Florida’s class on June 1. He silently committed to the UF coaches two weeks prior and kept it quiet until his announcement. Burney expects Florida to finish with a great 2018 class because he said several recruits who favor the Gators — both privately and publicly — are waiting to make their decisions. Burney likes Florida’s chances with Fields and 4-star wide receiver Anthony Schwartz.
4-star DT Rick Sandidge, Concord, N.C.

Rick Sandidge is ranked as the nation’s No. 11 defensive tackle and No. 123 overall recruit. (Chris Kirschner/SEC Country)
  • Sandidge told SEC Country he has high interest in Florida because of his relationship with Gators defensive line coach Chris Rumph. Sandidge will “definitely” get back to UF after enjoying his April visit to Gainesville. However, Sandidge said he will not officially visit Florida because those trips will be for schools he hasn’t seen yet. At this time, he wants to check out LSU, Louisville, Penn State and Southern Cal this fall. Sandidge is in no rush to make a decision and claims no leaders.
4-star WR Anthony Schwartz, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Anthony Schwartz is ranked as the nation’s No. 27 wide receiver and No. 138 overall recruit. (Zach Abolverdi/SEC Country)
  • The recruiting process is winding down for the fastest recruit in the country. He plans to visit five SEC schools after the dead period ends and then make his decision in September. Florida will receive a visit along with Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee. Schwartz told SEC Country the Gators still lead for his services and he communicates with UF coaches daily.
4-star DT Dante Stills, Fairmont, W.Va.

Dante Stills is ranked as the nation’s No. 13 defensive tackle and No. 147 overall recruit. (Zach Abolverdi/SEC Country)
  • Stills named Florida in his top 3 last month along with Oklahoma and West Virginia. He plans to visit UF and OU this month before making his decision in late August. Stills said he wants to tour Florida’s business school on his visit and find out what kind of opportunity he would have for early playing time.
4-star TE Kyle Pitts, Warminster, Pa.

Kyle Pitts is ranked as the nation’s No. 13 tight end and No. 268 overall recruit. (Zach Abolverdi/SEC Country)
  • Barring a surprise, Pitts will be Florida’s next pledge. His visit to UF on June 10 won him over because he connected with the coaches and realized how much he’s needed at the tight end position. Pitts will reveal his decision in mid-July with a commitment video. However, he plans to take official visits in the fall and his three finalists (Florida, Georgia, Virginia Tech) will all receive trips.
3-star LB David Reese, Fort Pierce, Fla.

David Reese is ranked as the nation’s No. 26 outside linebacker and No. 401 overall recruit. (Student Sports)
  • Reese told SEC Country he wants to be committed by the end of the summer, though right now his recruitment is “wide open.” Reese said the Gators started recruiting him harder in the spring and he plans to make his fist recruiting visit to Florida in the coming weeks. Miami and Michigan are considered the other contenders for Reese.

5-star DE Micah Parsons will visit Gators, says Florida is ‘definitely on the rise’

Florida is in the mix for 5-star DE Micah Parsons.

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Quarterbacks Justin Fields and Matt Corral aren’t the only 5-star recruits Florida has a shot to land.

The Gators are also in the mix for Micah Parsons, the nation’s No. 1 weakside defensive end and No. 4 overall recruit.

Parsons received an offer from Florida on April 10 and de-committed from Penn State two weeks later. Florida’s track record of producing NFL defensive linemen impresses him.

“Florida is definitely on the rise,” Parsons told SEC Country at The Opening. “Florida is more known for DBs, but I know they’ve put a few guys in the league. They would’ve had another first-round draft pick if [Caleb Brantley] didn’t get into that false scandal.”

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound pass rusher plans to visit Florida in the near future. Parsons has some high expectations for the trip after discussing the school with 5-star quarterback Justin Fields and Gators running back commit Iverson Clement.

“I just gotta get out there,” Parsons said. “If not this summer then definitely in the season. I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve heard a lot about Gainesville actually.

“Justin told me it’s real nice. Some of the players told me it’s nice. Iverson told me from the campus to the football team, everything is just amazing.”

Fields and Parsons are both former Penn State commits and became friends through their recruitments. Parsons said he met Clement last year at a regional camp for The Opening and has maintained a relationship with him.

“We know each other pretty well,” Parsons said of Clement, who is also recruiting Fields. “It’s good because you always want to have a brother or two there. That transition from high school to college is always difficult.”

Micah Parsons package deal?
In addition to Clement and Fields, Parsons also could potentially attend Florida with one of his high school teammates. Shaquon Anderson-Butts, a 4-star wide receiver from Harrisburg, Pa., also landed an April offer from the Gators.

“My friend Shaquon Anderson-Butts is really interested, so you never know how the cards may play out,” Parsons said. “Once me and him both got the offer, we got really interested in Florida. It’s just a two-hour plane ride for us. It’s really not that far.”

Florida defensive line coach Chris Rumph is the primary recruiter for Parsons. Rumph’s pitch to Parsons centers around playing time and how his skill set fits the team.

“They need guys with versatility like me, coming off the edge,” said Parsons, who worked out as a linebacker at The Opening. “They only have one guy like that and he’s a sophomore, so they’re lacking depth at that position.

“Coach Rumph is a pretty cool guy. We FaceTime here and there. He’s someone I can relate to personally. There’s definitely a lot of diversity on Florida’s staff so I like that a lot.”

Parsons plans to decide in January and said he’s considering Florida along with Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State and Penn State. He brushed off assumptions that he will end up with the Buckeyes, who hosted him on a visit right before his de-commitment.

“Everybody has their opinion,” Parsons said. “Everything is up for grabs right now.”

Quick wrap on The Opening Finals
Highlighting some of the biggest storylines that came out of the Nike World Headquarters.

http://florida.247sports.com/Article/Instant-Reaction-From-The-Opening-Finals-53431447

BEAVERTON, Ore. - This is Jacob Eason vs. Shea Patterson all over again.

Except this time it's Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields battling for the No. 1 quarterback spot in the 247Sports Recruiting Rankings, which this cycle doubles as the top prospect in America regardless of position.

Eason led for much of the process back in 2016 before Patterson overtook him at the very end. Talking to my colleague Barton Simmons on Monday afternoon as we continued to watch the two 2018 signal-callers, he believed Lawrence has a better chance of holding off Fields than Eason did. However, after what we saw from Fields (our unofficial stats charted him at 72 percent with 16 touchdowns and a stunning zero interceptions on 23 drives), making the move is something both of us are certainly thinking strongly about.

What we can't forget regardless of everything we've seen this camp season is that the 6-foot-6, 200-pound Lawrence has led Cartersville (Ga.) High to two-straight state titles. Barring injury he will head to Clemson as the Peach State's all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns, breaking another former Tiger's records in DeShaun Watson. Lawrence has been No. 1 since we debuted our class-of-2018 rankings years ago and what he's done in-between the lines in 11-on-11 football is as impressive as any quarterback prospect in recent memory.

And just like Eason, for the longest time Lawrence's spot at No. 1 at his position felt completely safe. Remember: All the schools recruiting Fields now targeted Lawrence first.

But — Fields keeps getting better ... and better ... and better.

Fields waited his turn behind South Carolina signee Lorenzo Nunez at Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison. In his first season as the starter last fall he completed 69 percent of his passes for 2,253 yards and 18 touchdowns. He added another 977 yards rushing and 14 more scores. Those are strong numbers but nothing like the win totals or stats Lawrence has put up. However this spring Fields showed off his terrific athleticism including a 4.51 laser-timed 40-yard dash at The Opening Regional in Orlando. He's going to be a dynamic guy on the next level. And with each passing 7-on-7 tournament Fields looked better and better. The Opening Finals were his best work, and as good as we've ever seen at the Nike World Headquarters.

With a ton of weapons around him, the 6-foot-3, 221-pound Fields made it look easy from the very first snap, spreading the ball around to the likes of Penn State commit Justin Shorter, Kamryn Babb, Josh Vann, tight end Luke Ford and others en route to earning 247Sports' MVP honors. The poise, how he was able to quickly slow things down, seeing the field so well and taking care of the football, in addition to his physical tools, were second to none this weekend. Lawrence performed in the top third of the group but he wasn't on Fields' level in this tournament.

We still have the coming fall and then the All-America Bowl season to continue comparing these two as this storyline is nowhere close to resolved.

***

Where does Fields end up?

The former Penn State commit is strongly considering Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Georgia, with the plan to take official visits in the fall before deciding.

Fields did a recent overnight visit to Gainesville and wants to do one next with the Tigers. He's blown away by Jimbo Fisher and enjoyed his summer camp experience in Tallahassee. He's also been over to Athens a couple times since decommitting in early June, as well as at least two trips to see Auburn.

My 247Sports Crystal Ball remains on the Gators. UF hasn't heavily pursued any other quarterback this cycle and several coaches are in daily contact with him and his father.

But there was a mixed bag of folks around Fields that see him going to any of the above schools.

***

I really liked what I saw from the Miami commits in Oregon, a class that has moved back to No. 1 in the 247Sports Recruiting Rankings.

The country's top-ranked tight end per the 247Sports Composite in Brevin Jordan was as reliable a pass catcher as there was in the tournament.

It's an extremely talented year at receiver and Mark Pope is right there in the middle of it as one of the best.

Cornerback Josh Jobe has the traits to be a special player in Coral Gables and Al Blades Jr. flashed as well.

Running back Cam'Ron Davis was as good catching the football as any of his peers.

Defensive tackle Nesta Silvera is an absolute pocket pusher with a fourth star coming his way.

Offensive lineman Delone Scaife was consistent in 1-on-1s.

Running back Lorenzo Lingard, receiver Brian Hightower and tight end Will Mallory (injury knocked him out early) had their moments as well. A terrific class is coming Miami's way.

***

Other quick takeaways include...

Shorter should be a five-star. We are excited to talk about that as we update our rankings from this event. Babb remains in the discussion, too. I continue to like the Buckeyes for Babb.

And speaking of liking Ohio State, Jeremy Ruckert is the most dynamic tight end in the country but Luke Ford isn't bad. Ruckert plans to announce within the next couple weeks with Michigan looking to spoil OSU's plans. Ford is leaning towards Alabama but Georgia among others have him thinking.

Jackson Carman is the nation's No. 1 offensive tackle prospect and Jamaree Salyer is still that guy on the inside. Could they both beat teammates at Clemson? Absolutely, but I still like the Buckeyes for Carman who is looking at USC as well. Clemson is my pick for Salyer but Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame and a couple others are in play. William Barnes was the most consistent offensive line performer over a two-day stretch. Florida and North Carolina may be his leaders but folks need to be talking about Florida State more here. The Seminoles are very much in it.

The defensive line didn't have a standout, but Clemson five-star commit Xavier Thomas certainly flashed rare ability in this camp with his unique first two steps and ridiculous power. Perhaps he's No. 1 over the two quarterbacks? Notre Dame defensive tackle commit Jayson Ademilola was the standout on the inside.

Isaac Taylor-Stuart ran a 4.32 40-yard dash in the semifinals en route to taking home fastest man at the event. He also made a lot of plays during 7-on-7. I continue to like USC's chances for the nation's No 3 cornerback.

Nebraska commit Brendan Radley-Hiles was the most exciting defensive player at the event, forcing several turnovers and getting his hands on several other passes.

Quarterback Tanner McKee is worth the wait. The Corona (Calif.) Centennial standout will take a two-year LDS Mission before enrolling at the school of his choice. 247Sports' No. 3-ranked quarterback lived up to his lofty ranking during 7-on-7 play, at times making it look as easy as Fields did. BYU will get the last official from the 6-foot-6, 220-pound McKee the first weekend of February, but Alabama, Texas, Washington and UCLA are four others that will get visits during the fall. If Stanford offers they'll certainly be a contender as well.

The Opening standouts: State of Florida
Clemson defensive end commit Xavier Thomas was the best of the bunch from the Sunshine State.

http://florida.247sports.com/Article/Prospects-from-Florida-that-stood-out-at-The-Opening-53430362

BEAVERTON, Ore. — The Opening Finals are a wrap. After three days of position drills, 1on1 competition and a 7on7 tournament that culminated in a Championship for Team Mach Speed at the Nike World Headquarters, it's time to close the book on the premier all-star event of the summer. This year, we're breaking down our prospect reports by region instead of 7on7 team. Here's who caught out eye this week from Florida.

Alpha Dog
Bradenton IMG Academy five-star defensive end Xavier Thomas looked like someone who is going to make a lot of money one day rushing quarterbacks on Sundays. The South Carolina native dominated 1-on-1s inside the Savage Pit throughout the weekend beating Top100 offensive tackle Richard Gouraige and Top247 offensive tackle Will Craig multiple times before blowing past five-star offensive tackle Brey Walker during the event's 'Final Five' on Sunday. Thomas proved that he's not only explosive, but also powerful when he needs to be. He should contribute early at Clemson.

Next 5 Standouts
DB Brendan Radley-Hiles – No Florida-based prospect made more plays this week than Radley-Hiles. The Nebraska verbal commit, who started his prep career in California, was essentially the quarterback of Team Untouchables' defense as he directed traffic and called out coverages while roaming freely at safety. The Bradenton IMG Academy playmaker finished the 7on7 tournament with seven pass break ups and three interceptions to his credit.

CB Patrick Surtain Jr. – Surtian Jr. could start in some college secondaries right now. The Fort Lauderdale American Heritage cornerback was one of the most physically impressive prospects out in Oregon and also one of the most polished. He was rarely tested by opposing quarterbacks and when he was, he made plays. The highlight of the weekend for him came on Saturday when he went up and intercepted a deep ball from Kentucky commit Jarren Williams.

DT Nesta Silvera – There wasn’t a more powerful defensive tackle on hand than Silvera. The Fort Lauderdale American Heritage standout used a quick first step to gain penetration right at the point of attack and then a low pad level to leverage his way past guys like Top247 center Justin Dedich and three-star guard Jovaughn Gwyn. He made a case to earn a bump in the 247Sports' rankings.

OL William Barnes – Barnes didn't make the event's 'Final Five' which came as a bit of a surprise seeing as how he was one of the most impressive linemen in 1-on-1s on both Sunday and Monday. The U.S. Army All-American showed plenty of versatility working at both guard and tackle and was able to use his quick feet and long reach to push a number of much quicker defensive ends to the side. Florida remains the favorite in the recruitment, but North Carolina is pushing.

CB Asante Samuel Jr – Samuel Jr. was one of the more physical defensive backs. The Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas standout broke up a pair of passes on Sunday and another on Monday when he jumped a slant route and bumped a wide receiver. The Florida State commit has been billed in the past as someone that could make an impact in the nickel, but he also showed that he can get it done on the outside when asked.

Emptying the Notebook
– Miami Columbus Top100 defensive back Josh Jobe had an interception on Sunday. He was one of the better looking safeties in coverage and was able to get his paws on a number of balls during tournament play. That was also the case with Orlando Jones three-star cornerback Sevyn Banks, who totaled two interceptions. The Ohio State commit returned one of them for a touchdown.

– Speaking of Buckeyes pledges, defensive tackle Taron Vincent was one of the best in 1-on-1s. The IMG Academy was able to motor past a variety of different offensive linemen with his brute strength. He continues to look like the nation's top interior defensive lineman.

– Clearwater Calvary Christian Top247 safety Amari Burney got better and better as he logged more and more 7v7 games under his belt. The Florida safety commit had two pass break ups and an interception on Monday.

– IMG Academy 2019 defensive end Nolan Smith looked elite on Sunday. That wasn't necessarily the case on Monday as the Georgia verbal commit didn't win as much reps in 1-on-1s. He still cemented himself as one of the state's best prospects for the next recruiting cycle.

– Miami Southridge three-star offensive guard Delone Scaife had his moments in 1-on-1s. He's a prospect that put himself in contention to add another star next to his name at some point down the line.

– North Broward Prep's Kevin Austin was one of the more productive wideouts. He caught 18 passes during the tournament three of which went for touchdowns.

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/florida-gators-commitments-opening

The likeliest recruits from The Opening who will commit to Florida
Kyle Pitts, 4-star tight end, Warminster, Pa.: Pitts is not only the most likely commit, but he should be the next recruit to pop for Florida. He is scheduled to release a commitment video in mid-July and the Gators are the odds-on favorite.

Richard Gouraige, 4-star tackle, Tampa, Fla.: The Under Armour All-American named Florida his top school after attending the Orange & Blue Debut and the Gators still hold the lead. Gouraige could decide at any time, so another trip to Gainesville may result in his pledge.

Anthony Schwartz, 4-star wide receiver, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.: Schwartz is another prospect favoring Florida. He plans to commit in September after visiting five SEC schools in the coming weeks. No program will be able to match what Florida can offer Schwartz as a football and track athlete.

William Barnes, 4-star tackle, Apopka, Fla.: Barnes was one of the top O-line performers at The Opening. Florida and North Carolina are co-leaders and his recruitment should come down to those two schools. I expect the in-state Gators to land Barnes on signing day.

Justin Fields, 5-star quarterback, Kennesaw, Ga.: Fields’ recruitment is far from over, but the Gators have put themselves in a favorable spot. His mother has been on campus twice and Fields himself was impressed on both of those trips. He belongs at No. 5 over the other UF targets at The Opening.

In case you missed it …

Meanwhile:

-Kentucky has Top 15 recruiting class following commitment from four-star LB Xavier Peters:

Peters is rated as a four-star prospect, the No. 8 outside linebacker in the nation and the No. 4 overall prospect from Ohio in the 2018 recruiting cycle by 247Sports. The Ohio native holds several impressive offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Penn State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and USC among others.

With Peters now set to join UK’s class, the Wildcats currently have the nation’s No. 14 overall 2018 recruiting class.

-South Carolina lands commitment from speedy Florida RB Lavonte Valentine:

Rated as a three-star prospect and the nation’s No. 13 all-purpose back by 247Sports Composite Ratings, Valentine commits to South Carolina over offers from Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Oregon and USC among others. The 6-foot, 188-pound back is considered to be among the fastest prospects from the Sunshine State in the 2018 recruiting cycle.

-South Carolina lands commitment from 2018 JUCO DT Jabari Ellis:

South Carolina fans have even more reason to celebrate this Independence Day, as the Gamecocks landed a commitment from 2018 JUCO DT Jabari Ellis. The 6-2, 280-pound South Carolina native chose the Gamecocks over NC State in a commitment ceremony in Orangeburg. Ellis played for Georgia Military College in 2016 and decided to head back to his home state for the 2017 campaign. Ellis is the No. 4 JUCO defensive tackle in the class of 2018 and the No. 1 overall JUCO recruit from the state of South Carolina.

-Texas receiver Danny Gray commits to Mizzou:

Missouri’s 2018 recruit class got a nice holiday surprise from Dallas receiver Danny Gray Tuesday as the 6-foot-1, 174-pound Texan pledged to join the Tigers’ latest class. Rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports, the recruiting service also lists Gray as the nation’s No. 60 receiver and the No. 46 overall prospect from Texas in the 2018 recruiting cycle. Following Gray’s commitment, Mizzou now has four prospects pledged to the 2018 recruiting class, none of which are natives of Missouri.

-Nation's No. 5 DT Greg Emerson commits to Tennessee:

According to college football insider Bruce Feldman, the nation’s No. 5 defensive tackle Greg Emerson committed to the Volunteers. Emerson had offers from every major program around the country, but he decided to stay in state with the Volunteers. He was Tennessee’s biggest uncommitted target left on the board and the state’s top defensive player. The Jackson, Tennessee, native is rated as the nation’s No. 5 defensive tackle and the state’s No. 2 overall prospect, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He became Tennessee’s 16th commitment for the class of 2018. That also gives Tennessee six of the top nine players from the state already committed. It’s only July 3.

-4-star DE Stephon Wynn commits to Alabama over Georgia, South Carolina:

Wynn, who measures 6-foot-4, 285 pounds with a 4.90 40-yard dash time, is ranked the No. 5 strong-side defensive end, No. 23 South Carolina prospect and No. 104 overall recruit. The IMG Academy product has 27 offers and had included Georgia and South Carolina in his final three.
Alabama now has six commitments in its 2018 class.

5-star Fields sets visits, hears from UF
Justin Fields gives the latest after making a strong push for the nation's top prospect.

http://florida.247sports.com/Articl...-visits-hears-from-the-Florida-Gator-53431810

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Five-star quarterback Justin Fields says he will visit two schools later this month.

“I think I’m going to go to Auburn on the 13th and UGA on the 16th or something like that,” Fields said. “Those are the two closest schools, so I can make it there pretty easy.”

The Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison start has been communicating with Florida throughout the week as he competed in The Opening Finals.

“They’ve been keeping up with the tournament a little bit. So, I’ve been texting them back and forth. Coach [Kerr] Dixon, Coach [Ryan] Smith, Coach [Jim McElwain], pretty much everyone, Coach [Ja’Juan] Seider. They’re just asking me how I’m doing and how the week is going, and stuff like that. Really, just about life stuff.”

As far as a commitment, Fields remains patient on making a decision.

“Just whenever I feel the time is right. I don’t have like a set date, but really whenever I feel like the time is right.”

While at The Opening Finals, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound Fields dazzled on throughout 7on7 play tossing 16 touchdowns and zero interceptions while completing 72-percent of his throws. 247Sports already ranks Fields as the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect, but does he believe he deserves No. 1?

“I don’t know, that’s not my job,” Fields answered. “I don’t really pay attention to the rankings, I just play my game. So, that’s not really my job to say if I’m the number one player in the country.”

Later on, Fields did admit, “My goal is just to be the best quarterback.”

It was during pool play on Sunday when Fields felt he starting to get into a rhythm.

“Really, yesterday in the game against the orange team. You know, I think I performed well in that game, so really yesterday is kind of when I started the hot hand and just kept going today.”

In 7on7 play, Fields wasn’t able to show of his running ability where he has ran 4.51-second forty yard dashes in the past.

WR Anthony Schwartz eyeing September commitment, future Nike sponsorship

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/anthony-schwartz-september-decision

Anthony Schwartz sets another PR
As the new John Ross cleats sat on display at Nike world headquarters, Anthony Schwartz showed why he may have a pair of his own one day.

The 4-star wide receiver from American Heritage High School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.27 seconds last Saturday at The Opening. His time was a personal record.

“And that’s off coming off an injury,” he said. “I could go faster than that. I think I can run a 4.1.”

Schwartz was sidelined in May after pulling his hamstring at the FHSAA Track and Field Championships. The injury kept him from defending his 2016 titles in the 100m and 200m.

“It was so frustrating,” Schwartz said. “I wanted to repeat so bad. Then again, it’s only one meet. I have a lot more to go.”

Schwartz is the World Youth U18 record holder, running a nation-leading 10.15 seconds in the 100m at the Pepsi Florida Relays in early April. His time broke the 2008 record set by former Florida running back Jeff Demps.

Like Demps, Schwartz will be a two-sport athlete in college. His speed was on display at The Opening during the fastest man competition and 7-on-7 tournament.

“If you’re in front of me, I’m burning you,” Schwartz said. “That’s my mind set.”

In a few years, Schwartz could be on Nike’s radar for a shoe deal in football or track.

“I already feel blessed that they recognized me as one of the top 166 recruits in the country,” Schwartz said. “Nike only sponsors the best athletes, so if they wanted to sponsor me it would be a dream come true.”

Anthony Schwartz nearing decision
The Under Armour All-American will be making his verbal commitment soon.

Schwartz plans to decide in September after visiting five SEC programs: Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee.

“I’m excited because I’m going to all the schools I’m thinking about,” Schwartz said. “Once I do that, I should have a good idea of where I want to go.”

Right now, that would be Florida. The Gators took the lead for Schwartz in the spring and they remain his front-runner heading into the final stretch of his recruitment.

“They communicate with me every day and I really like what they’re doing over there,” Schwartz said of the Gators. “They think I can take the top off a defense and they’ll have me doing routes that will get me in space.

“I can definitely make a mark there. My goal for college is to win a national championship in football and track, and I’m able to do that at Florida.”

As for life after college, Schwartz doesn’t know if he’ll pursue a professional career in football or track. He plans to determine that while in school.

“I enjoy doing both,” Schwartz said. “It’s kind of a good predicament to be in.”

We're now ranked #56 after the de-commit from 4-star S CJ Smith:

With the decommitment of four-star safety C.J. Smith, Florida fell 14 spots to No. 56 overall in the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings. The Gators now have seven total commitments in the 2018 class. The average grade per commit for Florida is currently 88.22 points.
No big deal...it's only July and according to the masses, Mac is a helluva closer the day before NSD.

There's plenty of time left but this class looks like it will be in the 10-14 range when all is said and done.

Is there really not enough dt's in florida for us to recruit? I just don't understand why our dt board is always so small.
I don't understand it. No other SEC school seems to have this problem.

I think we seem to huntin in Bammer first, lose to the Walmarters and Barners, then look for scraps. It just doesn't make any sense at all. It's like it just isn't a priority for them.

Maybe we are going to play a 2-2-7 defense.

Mac recruits the same way WM did but instead of under recruiting the OL and LB spots Mac under recruits the DL, LB and S. Then when he needs a body he fills the hole with a 3*, juco, or project

Biggest recruiting development
ESPN.com on Wednesday took a look into the biggest recruiting developments for each team in its preseason top-25. Florida’s development, like a couple other schools on the list, comes in the form of 5-star quarterback Justin Fields. The breakdown:

“Like at Florida State and Auburn, five-star quarterback Fields is the top target at Florida. The Peach State signal-caller would have an opportunity to play as a freshman in Gainesville, which is appealing. Should graduate transfer Malik Zaire win the job in Gainesville in August, redshirt freshmen Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask would have very little game experience headed into their third year, which is inviting for a five-star quarterback prospect with designs on early playing time. This is a huge recruitment for Jim McElwain and staff, because the dual-threat prospect will likely end up at hated rivals Florida State or Georgia (Auburn is a possibility, as well), should Fields pass on the Gators.”

That pretty much sums it up. The kid is a program changer and if he goes to UGA or FSU then we will watch them succeed while we don't. That said... there is only so much a staff can do to get a kid. It seems like they are doing all they can and he may still pick the bad guys
