I dont know about all that in the first paragraph. Butters came in and enjoyed that Muschamp defense the first two years. And I would argue the exact opposite. Defensive stats were skewed because of all those damn 3 and outs our O put on them as well as turnovers. The only games we really won came from our D.

That excuse is accepted. Thanks for serving.

It was a shytfest though. Basically this year w one more FG per game (scored mostly 17-20 points in SEC games... and even in the better games didnt score til late). Defense of course was lights out by the end of the year and STs were astonishingly good (Creyer) the whole year. (IMO STs 06-08 were probably the best ever at any school.)

The OSU game was really the only game in which they used Leak's talent and threw the ball downfield.

Leak would have been an assassin under SOS.

I would have to look at the roster first before picking between those two.

Muschamp has already made a mark on a Texas defense that was expected to struggle because of its youth.

The Longhorns lead the Big 12 in rushing defense (82.5 yards per game) and scoring defense (19.5 points per game), good for 25th nationally in both categories. The Longhorns rank second nationally with four sacks per game, have limited all of their Big 12 opponents below their season scoring average and limited six of their opponents to 14 points or less.
Muschamp to coach Longhorns when Brown retires

Auburn surprised folks last year because they were so good on the lines of scrimmage,” one SEC coach said anonymously. “Will Muschamp was there for one year as defensive coordinator, but he made such an impact on the way Auburn recruited. He pushed the idea of building from the inside out, from the lines to the skill players. That’s where Auburn is right now, that’s why they will continue to grow under Gus."

Mac's first 2 years his defenses ranked:
                  15:
                  8 in total D
                  13 in passing D
                  25 in rushing D
                  11 in scoring D

                  16:

                  5 in total D
                  2 in passing D
                  37 in rushing D
                  6 in scoring D
                  cfbstats.com - 2016 National Team Leaders

                  2017:
                  31 in total D
                  28 in passing D
                  50 in rushing D
                  69 in scoring D

We all saw what happened when WM recruits left and Mac recruiting took over. In fact every category dropped by double digits in 2017.

How's Grantham doing with Mac recruits:

                  2018:
                  33 in total D
                  19 passing D
                  79 in rushing D
                  27 in scoring D

Pretty much the same except scoring is down

There's never been a more overrated "defensive mind" in college football, ever. I don't give a shcit what the stats say. When teams wanted to score ,they scored. And only once he put a solid defense on the field while he was here. And that was with meyer's recruits and Dan Quinn coaching em. His defenses at USCe haven't been very good.
