Interesting list. Meant for debate.

I think Terry Bradshaw is a glaring omission. He may not have racked up the high yardage totals of some but he won 4 Super Bowls - and not just as a game manager. Yes, his Steeler teams had great defenses and great running games. But he was also an efficient passer and good with the long ball too. Swann and Stallworth are Hall of Fame WRs and his arm delivered those passes.

The real question is who I would knock off the list to add him. That’s not hard. Staubach or Elway. Staubach had as much or more talented teams around him. Elway was great but won his Super Bowls late when he was fading.

Link?

Agree on Elway, but Staubach is in my top 3.

Grew up a Steeler. Love Bradshaw for being a Steeler. Leave him off the list. Efficient and deliberate QB surrounded by All Pros’s at almost every position.

3) Unitas
4) Marino
5) Graham
6) Elway
7) Favre
8) Manning
9) Baugh
10) Starr

I think before he’s done, Rodgers pops this list. He’s the best in the game at the moment.

That’s usually the rub on Marino — what did he win? And yet it’s a 22-man game, 33 with special teams. Those Dolphin defenses of the ‘80s and ‘90s weren’t always the best.

Bradshaw was backed by one of the best defenses ever assembled.

Marino isn’t top 20. Never got it done.

So this again will be about “This guy deserves to be on the list because his team won Super Bowls.” And “This guy doesn’t because he never won one”

Ask yourself what would have happened if Marino was the QB of those great steeler teams and then think about the dolphins teams with Bradshaw at QB.

Much as I hated the Steelers of the '70s, Bradshaw deserves mention on the list. He won 4 Super Bowls, fer cryin' out loud. Yes, he had a lot of talent around him, but this was back when QBs had a lot more leeway either calling their own plays or making check downs on the line of scrimmage and they didn't have helmets with speakers and coaches telling them what to do.

These lists are difficult. Unitas, Baugh, Staubach and the other guys from bygone eras didn't have today's rules handcuffing defenses to pad their stats. The balls were not as grippy and they didn't have the gloves the players have today. Players back then had called their own plays in a lot of cases (Staubach, for the most part, excepted). Flipside is, players today are in far better shape and generally are probably more well-rounded athletes.

Could Brees and Favre have succeeded with aggressive bump & run coverage? Hand checking? Defensive linemen utilizing head slaps? How would Johnny U have carved up today's soft defenses?

These are unknowable. But with the exception of the omission of Bradshaw, this is an OK list, IMO.

Fine. Please review the referenced article and break down the mechanics of each and explain why Marino was better. kthanxbye

You are doing an excellent job of catching up to that Sasquatch a-hole as the most irritating poster on this board.
