2020 College Football Quarterback Rankings: All 130 FBS starters | College Football | PFF

48. KYLE TRASK, FLORIDA

Trask displayed dependable accuracy (11th in FBS in accurate pass rate beyond the line of scrimmage), which again is the top trait you want in a quarterback, but also had really poor decision-making. He had a -13 differential in big-time throws and turnover-worthy plays last year (9:22), which was tied for fourth-worst in the country. For perspective, only two other SEC quarterbacks had a negative differential, and they both sat at -1. In terms of big-time throw rate and turnover-worthy play rate, Trask ranked 116th and 110th in the FBS. He got extremely lucky on most of those turnover-worthy plays, which made his box score stats look better than he actually was.

He did get lucky a lot last year, and the receivers helped him out a lot, but also Pro Football Focus judges him on NFL throws. I still don't believe he will translate into a NFL starter without a lot of work and an extremely good coaching staff at the next level. But he is an solid college qb, he looks a lot better because of the schit we have had since 2009. If a coach like Spurrier had him, he would be lighting up the stat line just due to the difference in offensive system and offensive mind.

The fact that a 2-star QB with only 1 FBS offer (UF) is on that list is amazing. A kid who should be at a D2 Baptist college in Texas is in the top 50 QBs in the country is pretty impressive....regardless of what Law thinks!!

I attribute those stats to a combination of lack of real time playing and confidence in himself to make the play. Love the second one! Yes he got lucky that quite a few of those bad throws weren't picked off or cost us more, but one thing those stats don't show is that shortly after almost everyone of those throws he would make a great play. He put it behind him, kept his confidence and made the plays on the next drive. Sign of a winner!

I would expect those kind of numbers from a guy who never started a game at the college or high school level. He's inexperienced, but unlike the guy before him, he at least seems to have the ability to learn and improve.

He is a solid player that I think the players want to follow. If we had a OL with the talent to play the scheme that he needs to run his stats would be way better. I hesitate to say this because I am not comparing him or his style to Dorsey, but if we had a good OL he would be more than capable to win us games the way Dorsey did at Miami 20yrs ago. Dorsey wasn't great nor was he that good ... he just had confidence, knew the plays and most importantly had time.

Yes, he does. One of the most overrated QBs ever. I remember the announcers and media always saying "well all he does is win." Of course he wins! He was playing behind one of the greatest O-lines I've ever seen in college football. The guy had time to read a book and build a fence back there. Shoot, Grossman would have EASILY won the Heisman behind that line. #RexWasRobbed.

Dude was surrounds not just by NFL talent, but in a lot of case NFL pro bowl and all-pro talent. Those early 2000s Miami teams would some of the most NFL talented teams ever seen in college football.

Can't disagree with the analysis.

He got very lucky on a lot of throws that should have been INTs last year.

Fact is, he was the backup who didn't have much live game experience. I predicted he would would struggle in the pocket against the rush because he didn't have the experience to sense where the pressure was coming from and protect the ball. He gave up a lot of early sack/fumbles that could have been avoided. Same with the near-INTs. He tossed up some wounded ducks when pressured, tried throws when he should have thrown the ball away, and trusted his mediocre delivery and arm strength way more than he should have.

My hope is that in year 2 as a starter he will have gained the experience to be more alert in the pocket and smarter about the throws he makes. He needs to learn the limitations of his arm.

We got lucky last year. We can't count on luck again. He has to be much improved this year. He's got the potential to do it. I think he will.

Great take. And I think you’re dead on that he’s exactly the type of QB that would thrive under Spurrier. Not a cannon but can make all the throws. Willing to be a student of the game. And humble enough to be coachable(even when that means taking a verbal beating at times) but with enough confidence in himself to get right back up and keep trying. That’s a Spurrier QB.

Spot on about Trask and I worry that teams will be able to scheme into making mistakes this year. Trask did great last year but I really feel like he is at his ceiling on what he can and cannot do. I really am more excited to see what EJ and AR can do in the future just because they fit this offense so much better and will open up a bit more of the offense. With that said, Trask should have a good year just because he can make some decent throws when needed.

Trask has the physical tools, he just needs some more PT. It has always been his biggest disadvantage that he has spent so much of his career riding the pine. Its true some of his mistakes wound up being missed opportunities for our opponents, but he made a number of pretty awesome plays at key times that were absolutely crucial to us winning some games. The 4th down play at 2:45 in this video for instance.

That was an odd game all around. That diving TD pass to Swain looks so awkward I'm still not sure how it was successful, and the "hold/not a hold" on Cleveland is just bizarre. Other than beating WM, and completely owning the 4th quarter for the second year in a row, it's a very forgettable game.

it was awkward watching again in the video above.
