Well, we went 8-4. The fact that one play made a difference at the end of that LSU game is a complete indictment of Mullen. Sitting Pitts and playing back-ups throughout the game as if the game didn't matter was the real reason we choked that game away. Shoe toss or not. As for the A&M game, we didn't lose that game because Dan inexplicably decided to play a back-up RB with ball control issues on the final drive. We lost that game because our D got abused all day long, including after the Davis fumble that was at midfield by the way.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the reason cited for UF and it's vaunted D getting torched all day and night long was due to CROWD NOISE. Somewhere I remember vaguely hearing that from someone who I was told should have known. I could be mistaken tho.

I’m tired of hearing about 8-4. Two plays defined our season and kept us from the playoffs. As bad as our defense was, two plays hurt us. A fumble against A&M and a shoe toss. Undo those two plays and we go to the playoffs.

We are going to be better on offense and defense than we were last year.

Have a little faith.
Expecting the offense to actually be better than last year's is beyond having a "little faith." Some might call it supremely optimistic or perhaps even bat schytt crazy. Expecting the defense to be "better" is possibly not as much of a stretch. After all, being "better" for this defense is the definition of low-hanging fruit. Just sayin.'

I could be wrong, but based on his early statement of perhaps not being brand new to Law’s nonsensical takes, I think his point was that last year was supposed to be the drop off year. Not sure though. And there’s always the possibility of hard drug use and/or a coma. I don’t think those things can be ruled out.

But we’re worse because of what we just had, which has to be credited to the staff. None of the big three from last year would’ve ever been labeled as “irreplaceable” a few years ago. So when we say worse, what we’re really saying is a step back, which is almost always the case after talent like that leaves. We have different opinions on the state of affairs, which is fine. But I think we’ll be good at QB, fine at TE and OL, and considerably better on D.

That’s my take and I’m perfectly fine with differing opinions.

We tanked last year...why would this year be better with less?

To clarify just a bit. I don't necessarily believe that DM will likely be fired after a second consecutive schyttfest of a season. I do believe, however, that he could become a de facto zombie, shambling along, stinking up the place for some time to come - until someone finally decides to take the trash out. You are of course totally correct about Fuchs and his apparent apathy toward the idea of competing with the elite of CFB. Sadly, it might require some high-level retirements/firings to cure the disease of mediocrity that has seized the program in a deat

And I'd buy out DM's bloated contract, hire an unproven like Kewin or even SOS.
And let the it play out. We can't be worse.

We tanked last year...why would this year be better with less?

Because at the end of the day it was a 10 win season in any normal year. We didn’t tank, imo, either. Lsu was an abortion. We played a hard fought game against the eventual NC winner and then mailed in the bowl game. I don’t like the final home game and the optics of the Cotton are awful. He deserves every ounce of heat that comes his way. But I do think the offense will be fine, and the defense, which had been fine until last year (when a ton of defenses were off) will be vastly improved.

Again, not trying to change anyone’s mind here. We’ll find out soon enough.

Im looking forward to this season. There is a lot of things to look forward to.

Jones is probably my top thing. Can't wait to see him come in as the starter instead of the running stunt double for Trask. <-thats not a swipe at Trask, its a swipe at Mullen. I think he's got enough skilled talent around him to really make the defense have to make hard decisions. And I actually think our OL play improves since there's an actual decision to be made by the DE.

Our defense. It was so bad last year. It was obvious that our problems just weren't manifested from poor DL play, it was also really crappy coaching. I really really hope that at a minimum Mullen had a talk with Grantham about how he took the bullet for him after last season but he ain't going to do it again after this season. You got to believe Grantham is coaching for his job, right? Im hoping at least. While it is hard to separate my feelings for Grantham and wanting our defense to succeed, I still want to see our defense to win. Im excited to see our new DL and if the portal saved Dan's arse again. How long it takes Wingo to mature and if Miller steps up. How Diabate does and if for the love of God, will they let Hopper skip over Burney or are we going to have sit and watch him play even though Hopper is better? Is Cox really a 5*...or does Bogle look just as good?

Alabama game. It is put up or shut up time. If I hear crap about only losing to bama by 6 crap much longer Im going to flip out. Well, it stops on 18 September. Our defense was horrible last season and have been assured that its because of covid so stop being a poopypants. Mullen says Grantham is one of the best out there. So there is no excuse for the defense on 18 September. Bama has a guy who hasnt taken many snaps as quarterback for them yet. We have Emory Jones. We only lost by 6 points. Ive been assured our defense will be way better. Its early in the season. There are no excuses anymore. Its put up or shut up time.

I’ll answer this way. Which position is notably worse? The only ones I see this year:

WR—and that’s largely because we lost Grimes(transfer he landed) and Toney. I’m open to opinions on KT, but either this staff helped develop him or McElwain was a magical recruiter. I don’t care which you choose, just choose one. I say give a little credit.

QB—see the other KT above. Can’t have it both ways.

TE—lost maybe our best ever. A step back was inevitable.

Don’t see another spot we’re not as good or better, even if only much deeper, than the past few years.
I agree. But here's the problem I think we run into this year. A significant drop off in the passing game and offense in general is gonna leave us pretty vulnerable when we can't win shootouts anymore. Any team with an ounce of a passing game just shreds a TG coached defense. Unless EJ is a stud and he just might be,(We really don't know) We're in trouble next year.

In 2019, we averaged giving up 17.3 points a game vs P5 opponents(it’s less if we go just SEC, and obviously less if we go all 12 games). In 2018, it was 24.5. And I think some of you forget the bad spots FF and even Trask early on put us in with some of the turnovers in those years. I’m not sure you’ll find a bigger critic of Grantham on this board. I seriously hate the guy and everything about him and don’t think he’s the guy who’ll ever be a DC on a title team. Unfortunately I do t make that call. But the idea that last year’s debacle was indicative of his defense since he’s been here is insane. We won three games games off the top of my head in 2018 on a last possession stop or turnover. I expect something like that this year. If this offense can’t consistently score 4+ TDs, I agree we have some issues. I just don’t see that personally.
