Davis said he was allowed to only offer one-year contracts to assistants, hampering his ability to hire coaches who could get multi-year deals elsewhere.

When Davis arrived in 2017, he found out all the shoulder pads were at least 10 years old. The school wouldn’t provide the money to purchase new shoulder pads, but an assistant coach had a contact at Mississippi State. The Bulldogs’ program had shoulder pads that were five years old, but they were replacing them, so Mississippi State gave FIU its shoulder pads at no cost.

“They were five years old,” Davis said. “But they were new to us.”

In today’s college football world, where some schools get new uniform combos literally every game, FIU is using uniforms that are nine years old, Davis said.

Davis also said his coaching staff was not allowed to go on the road recruiting the past two years because of the school’s financial reasons and COVID-19.

Fooley and Stricklin: Why didn't we think of that? But we did stop bringing the band on most away games at least. Showed up the day before our bowl. We are still cutting edge!

I think Mullinz has already been doing the But Covid recruiting plan.

UF's next coach needs to beat Saban or Kirby to the punch and make Butch Davis one of the assistant coaches at UF. If Kiffin could deliver Orgeron and Butch Davis...I'd be all in, lol.

Orgeron cannot coach in the SEC for 18 months. He is technically still employed by LSU for next season and its written in that he will have to make an appearance on campus at least once a month. LSU knows what they are doing because the last thing they wanted was Saban scooping Orgeron up.

Freeze would likely be a great hire, but with his baggage they won't even consider him.

Freeze, Malzahn Mullins, all the same sideways option guys with little difference between them. Id probably rank them in that order.

All I know for sure is I'm past tired of coaches who think the offense is a liability and coaches that think swing passes and bubble screens are innovative, and no thanks to coaches who think their QB should also be the team's rushing leader. Give me a coach who believes offense is for 4 quarters of blitzkrieg.

I think Shane Matthews is out on work release. Anyhow, he was just on the steve Russell show. His pick to replace dan mullen was lane kiffin. He gave him a pretty good endorsement.

My god I hope not. When we were pursuing MusChimp I had lunch with Shane and he was bragging how much better a coach he was going to be over Meyer. And he defended Chimp until the absolute end.

He’s clueless about the real world.

That's what happens when you spend years living in an 8x10 with your only exposure to the outside world being hand written letters and shooting the breeze in between bench sets.

Cristobal is still my #1 choice:

When the LSU football coaching search began last month, I figured Oregon coach Mario Cristobal would be among the names near the top of the list of candidates.

Cristobal, 51, has SEC experience as a former offensive line coach for Alabama under Nick Saban, and the Ducks (9-1) are positioned for a College Football Playoff bid if they win their remaining games.

Cristobal is in his fourth season as Oregon’s coach, and he has a 34-11 record. While Oregon has not reached the level of prominence it sustained under Chip Kelly, Cristobal has been an improvement on predecessors Willie Taggart and Mark Helfrich.

So far, though, there’s been little buzz surrounding Cristobal as a potential candidate to replace Ed Orgeron at LSU.

So, how about Florida?

While living in Gainesburger I knew someone that knew Matthews personally. The exact wording to describe him was "dumber than dirt".
