One thing to consider with the McElwain class comparisons, Jefferson and Ivey—the only two stars of that class—were basically locks to UF all along. Jefferson basically said as much in his intro interview. Outside of Calloway and Scarlett, all of the additions were basically Rayshad Jackson types.

I also think that the further into the abyss we’ve gone, the harder it is to get out. So in 2015, we were 1 bad hire away from Meyer. Napier is following up on 3 straight disasters.

This roster is better than either of the ones those guys inherited.
This is the furthest thing from the truth...offensively compared to 2015 maybe yes but you're overlooking the fact that what Mullen left us with got drubbed and clubbed by a non P5 team with a rash of injuries and on a down year...with a 1st year coach....let that sink in for about 5 minutes and remember the 2008 team ain't gonna be showing up to save the day....stop living in the past would be my advice to all Gator fans and get a lot of patience and willingness to put off unrealistic hopes while enjoying the building process that CBN hopefully has in place...

F'n polite Coast Guard guys... you practically sound Canadian! But, in the end, you redeemed yourself!

I probably deserved that! While I don’t always succeed, I try to post the way I would carry a conversation in person (as opposed to the anonymous keyboard commandos we’ve witnessed on the interwebs). If I screw up, I should be man enough to admit when I’m wrong.

It’s easy to misinterpret what someone is saying when all you have is text with no facial/verbal cues. Or maybe it’s just piss poor comms, whether by stupid transmit or idiot receive mode (yes, I was an ET). Miscommunication can happen so easily on social media.

That said, I’m still smarter than everyone else on this board.

Seems like after 5 years and the last guy that was a part of a Meyer team is gone, that there isn't much difference between 5 and 10 years out.

BAD seasons at UF should be 8 wins, the absolute minimum the Gators should have, regardless of any circumstances. Less than 8 wins is inexcusable, period. I personally don't expect Napier to ever have a sub 8 win season at UF. Our Gators will win 8 to 10 games next season.

BELOW AVERAGE seasons are 9 wins.

AVERAGE seasons at UF should be 10 wins.

After you hit 11+ wins, then you can start saying GOOD seasons.

For GREAT seasons you have to win the SEC, the NC, or both.
While I agree with those standards things have changed.....we are about equal to UT, Arky and teams like that when it comes to parts inventory...I know that's painful to digest but it is reality....to saddle CBN with those standards just wouldn't make sense or be fair to giving him a chance to succeed here IMO.

Not sure if this is true but it certainly puts a highlighter on Ol Jimmy Bo going from 1 five star to 7. Our crew are gonna need a little more than the Gator Collective, a dodge dealership and Bloomin Onions

8 to 10 wins is not "unrealistic hopes" at UF next year. The SEC isn't some powerhouse, it's full of average teams. This Gator squad won 6 games under some of the most awful circumstances imaginable this past year.

I know you like to beat this "we have no talent" drum, but it simply isn't reality compared to most of the teams on our schedule. We have had this same dumb argument before. Players CAN improve under better coaching, did you know that? It's not like they are born a certain way and that's the only way they can play.

You need to watch the game....not the plays....the one on one battles....we lost all over the field. We were smaller, slower, and weaker.....everywhere.....don't kid yourself.

I think you’re forgetting the commentary from the announcers that “at some point Jones has to be able to complete those passes”. We had open WRs and simply couldn’t complete the passes, much like most of the year. He was beyond dreadful. Competent QB play, and we win, even with Knox and a GA with one foot out the door at DC.

And as always, bowl games tell us absolutely nothing. Especially when it’s a big game for one team and not the other. Remember how good Oklahoma was going to be after the Cotton? The same QB that was Heisman worthy that night was benched like 4 games in to the next year for a freshman.

This is crazy and just gonna get crazier. Won’t be long before non revenue sports are told they can either find a way to break even or get shut down.

To be fair, we made it almost 5 full months before NIL completely took over recruiting and made it legal to flat out buy players, as several of us said would happen.

Did you see their QB? He was like a walk on kicker trying to throw the ball....I think they pretty much gave up and just decided they were bigger, stronger and faster and decided to cram the ball down our throats....

And let me remind you that the same team went down to the wire with the national championship runner up earlier in the season.

As sofla pointed out earlier, those late season results last year have more to do with a team that had quit being coached by position coaches than it had to do with a talent gap.

Reality is that we have a top 10 home field advantage, top 10 talent, a top 10 paid staff, and we're finally ponying up the cash in other areas as well. Expecting the results on the field to match that is not entitlement.

Yes, and it's also true that after falling flat of our faces and essentially giving ourselves virtually no change to win halfway through the 2nd qtr., the bammers lost focus, took their foot off the gas, and damn near gave us the game. As for the top-10 home field advantage, the record over the last decade at Florida Field has been underwhelming at best. Does Ga State ring any bells for you? And while I agree that the team was in general disarray in that God-awful bowl game, we still got man-handled on the lines of scrimmage and out-athleted in the offensive backfield. Talent-wise, we're somewhere around mid-league level, regardless of what some pie in the sky ranking on some pay site may say.

I agree that your points on staff salaries and the fact that we are hopefully seeing some signs of life on the part boys with the uber deep pockets (big-time NIL $) are valid. Also, hopeful expectations that reflect our CURRENT REALITY are fine and dandy - in fact, I embrace them myself. You may also be right that expecting CBN to pull a rabbit out of his hat, even with the mountain we have yet to climb, may not be due to a sense of entitlement after all. It could just be straight-up goofy. Just sayin.'

If you think a 6/7 win Ucf team would line up and beat us in a game that truly mattered, with a staff that truly cared, you’re crazy.
