I think Sully wanted to win real bad but he couldn't get out of his own way. He has to prove that he is smarter than everybody else. Even if it costs him the game. His pitching decisions have lost numerous games. He has only gotten worse. Many of you will strongly disagree with me and that's fine. It is just my opinion and it provides good conversation fodder. But I have watched him since he was hired and as often as not, his stubbornness trumps sound baseball judgement. I wish him well but I also wish him gone.

Not having guys warming up
In the pen in the 8th is inexcusable. After the tying homer the guy should have been yanked . It’s inconceivable he pitched to four batters after giving up a two run lead with everything on the line .

He warmed up 1 guy and unless he threw in the cage area before coming out, he threw for all of 5 minutes. OU warmed multiple guys for 15 minutes.
I should have left before they resumed play.

Wonder why he didnt go sproat to close after rain delay? No more than a bullpen session on 3 days rest

No question this could have been an option as Oregon State did it today for 2 innings with a guy who threw 100 pitches on Friday. But Sully has always been extremely protective of his pitchers in that regard, rightly or wrongly. the only time he would ever give a thought to doing what you asked would be in the final game of the college world series championship or in the game they are trying to close it out at the WS like he did with Kowar in 2017. Otherwise he will not risk, what he calls, their future.

This L (if the score holds) is 100000% on Sully. Just atrocious (!!!) late game coaching. From having your SS playing back to sticking with Slater. Holy crap that was bad

Slater has been the "quote, unquote" closer for the latter part of the year. So when Sully put him out there right after the rain delay and a 2-1 lead, he was pushing all his chips into the middle, even though Slater pitched 3 innings in the heat the day before. It is just how Sully coaches. I promise you it did not even cross his mind to try and get to say the 9th and then go to Slater. Do we win if the rain did not come? Who knows as I think Neely was about to head out anyway but he pitched great. Maybe Sully would have stayed with him but we had a lot of chances early in the game to get to their closer, who started the game, and never could get a timely hit. the rain delay caused both teams to sit out, so to say that was the reason we lost is not accurate. Both teams played on the same field.

Oh freaking well. Aside from a very late season rally, this team basically sucked all year. I'm past over sully. He's the les miles of college baseball. No one does less with more.

I think we have all hit on the things that he is just plain bad at. Sproat should have been the call....period. Even if he had just come out and got us to the top of 9 we should have been able to hold them down with Fic. Sully is too damn stubborn to learn anything so that's why he gets worse...that personality doubles down. Almost pathological.

Yeah, no sense risking that fry basket lifting arm to try to win a do or die game to advance in the tournament.
Sully's motto, "Let's not risk anything, we'll just play it safe, it works every time"

So who do we target as our next coach? Who do you want to replace Sully? What coach has all the attributes that you aspire for our baseball coach to be? Someone who can take our program to the next level which is SEC Titles and CWS berths 4 out of every 5 years cause that is what our program should be.

We had options other than Sproat.
They need to be ready and you need a short hook.
It was so obvious Slater didn't have it.
No movement on his fastball, leaving pitches up and being unable to get a third strike on the first few batters. All signs he was going to give it up, yet ignored.
It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks and sully's coaching are the least of his problems with the administration.

Somebody making 6 figures is responsible for that call. I not suggesting he get fired, we haven't sunk to that yet but if he decides he needs a fresh start we should have "someone in the bullpen getting game ready".

You know I'm as disappointed as I can be that we lost a baseball game. It is Gator baseball. But you guys know our pitching has been suspect all year and not one of us expected to be hosting a regional, let alone get to the WS. The boys done good, given the holes in the roster. Be glad you're a Gator. And remember, its baseball not an engineering degree.

This is the NIL era baby and there is no room for slackers. It's time to clean house.

Something tells me that with the game tied in the 8th inning and 2 strikes on the batter the infield was suddenly moved back .even with a runner on 3rd base and less than 2 outs, why do I think that Bell made that call? Well as far as I am concerned all calls are made by and fall onto the HC

All outcomes end up the responsibility of the HC even though they never play a single play in any sport. That accountability comes with the paycheck. I fully support moving on from Craig Bell, the poor decisions are two numerous to count.

Maybe this is an indication that Sully is really pissed at the missed opportunity and wants to upgrade staff to enhance and develop the incredible players they recruit? It also tell me he isn't going anywhere and is retooling. Let's get in a great hitting coach who knows how to run an offense. Hell we played two this weekend with Okla and CMU who could "find" a way to score runs with or without the 3 run HR.

Fix it!

If that is the case then why did he take him so long to get rid of Bell? Bell was gone a year or two ago and then Sully brought him back? He sucked years ago just as badly as he has sucked his entire career. You know the loyalty thing is tiring. I am not saying this b/c this was a championship team, it was not. But the wash, rinse repeat stuff the past 3 or 4 years is getting tiresome.
