I accidentally bought a seeded watermelon the other day which made me really appreciate the new and improved seedless watermelons that are available.

What other foods have improved since your childhood?

Pizza is definitely much better.

We would get TV dinners as a kid when there was a babysitter. I would choose the Salisbury “steak” with some sort of dessert. Ewww

Bread has a longer shelf life now, for better or worse.

There was a real art to eating those TV dinners. Thinking back, everything about them was awful. From burning yourself on the steam as you peeled off the top plastic, down to the edges of the dessert turning into concrete. And yet for some reason, they still put a little smile on my face when I think about them.

I've got some "basics" that are way better now than when I grew up: cereals, peanut butter, chocolate milk, deli meat, butter

How far back are you going? I think just about everything was borderline barely edible. Many fruits like watermelon were mostly rind. You probably wouldn't eat a natural watermelon. Same is true for vegetables. Corn especially.

Some of the frozen dinners these days are pretty good.
Healthy Choice, Marie Callendar's, 'Devour', etc are not bad when you don't feel like cooking.

Kind of like Applebee's ...when you're too lazy to microwave your own frozen food:

The rules say “since your childhood.”

Cereal. Damned cereal.

Next time you are in your grocer, just stop and look at that aisle. Captain Crunch and Crunch Berries back in the day were the treat, then it was standard stuff like Raisin Bran, Cheerios, and Corn Flakes.

You got 15 damned flavors of every cereal, kids today are spoiled.

When I was a kid ice cream flavors were much different. Chocolate, vanilla, and Neapolitan

Now we have amazing flavors like Oreos, heath bar and cookie dough.

and we'd avoid the Strawberry section inside the Neopolitan carton like the plague.

Like the kids in this clip from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - Ice Cream Pool

Cupcakes have come a long way in the last 10 years. The only thing available when I was a kid was a generic flavor. Now they are gourmet.

I’d say hotdogs. When I was young the only hotdogs we ever had were the red weiners. Often had them cold as a snack in the afternoon. Grandmother would boil them and we’d eat them on light bread with ketchup and mustard. The first time we had Oscar Meyer hotdogs, it was like heaven. Now there’s all kinds that while they may still not be good for you, they sure taste better. There’s still red weiners if you want them, but why?

I remember mom boiling hot dogs and dad would eat Vienna sausages from the can when I was a kid. It looked so disgusting and so I’ve never had a hot dog before because of it. I will eat kielbasa and andouille sausage from the grill or a cast iron skillet but not hot dogs.
