Obviously it’s if there’s any threat of lightning, which wouldn’t be treated like a normal game. It would just get canceled if it gets pushed back any more than 30 min or so

If the forecast holds up and Saturday ends up being the best weather day of the week(least rain chance, high 85), while Thursday gets rained out, I think you’re going to have some frustrated fans and businesses. Hopefully it changes his stance on this going forward.

I wanted to go. If I work all day in the rain, I doubt I'm going to feel like sitting all night in the rain. However, depending on how many show up I might could be under an overhang.

Billy is supposed to know the weather in advance now, too? It could have just as easily been perfect on Thursday night and raining on Saturday. Would that have made him a genius? Bizarre post that really doesn't make any sense.

You mean his stance on Thursdays in general or his stance on not holding the O&B game if there is rain? Surely you don't mean it never rains on Saturdays in April in Gainesville.

Of course there’s a chance it rains Saturday. But there are two critical factors. If it’s a 1:00 kick on a Saturday and the rain/lightning delays things, you can push it back a few hours and hopefully still play. Can’t do that Thursday night. And if it’s just rain, it’s at least day time and closer to 80, not night time and closer to 60. No one expects him to predict weather or be a genius. But when you go against the grain and it doesn’t work out, and it turns out the traditional route would have, it’s a bad look, imo. In general though, I’ve been clear on my position that I don’t care for taking away what used to be a great spring weekend tradition. Not the end of the world. I just don’t like it.

I'll put this here since it is leading up to the game. More spring news from various podcasts.

1. Heis-Mertz hasn't won the job yet. Not only that, he is in a dogfight with Miller. Miller has supposedly made a massive jump this spring, way beyond what the coaches expected. This could be true or just spring news. I'll believe it when I see it. So far, I'm worried about QB this upcoming season.

2. Justus Boone, now 270ish, has solidified the DE spot allowing Princely to move to rush end. They both look outstanding. In the recent scrimmage the d-line dominated as expected since a number of starters were out on the o-line.

3. Hayden Hansen is a monster. He was brought in to be our Chris Manhertz. If you don't know who that is, he is an NFL tight end who gets paid 3 million a year because he is a dominating blocker. That is all he does. Hansen still has to learn the position, but he has dominated at times.

4. When Caleb Banks transferred from the Cards, he was expected to be a project. That hasn't been the case. He may be starting next year alongside Cam Jackson. He has looked that good. We have real depth on the d-line this season.

Those who are going to the spring game will be able to determine whether there's any validity to the reporting about the QBs. I am among the least football knowledgeable guys here, and even I could tell at last year's game we'd be in real trouble if Miller was ever needed. Last spring he was not very accurate and locked on to one receiver for the whole play. Definitely something to watch for.

He did during that season as well. It is why I'm skeptical of the "Miller looks great" talk from the writers. I think it is more about Mertz being a huge disappointment than Miller looking good.

In all fairness, Miller was hurt all season and couldn't play until Dec. So yes, he was awful in the bowl game, and that shouldn't have been surprising. It's not unrealistic for him to improve more than expected now that he's physically able to practice.

It shouldn't be a surprise or disappointment (yet) that the QB battle is close. Both guys were 4* out of high school, so there is some talent to work with. Miller has an advantage in that he knows they playbook and system, while Mertz is playing catch up. Mertz has the advantage in that he has a lot more playing experience and reps than Miller, which is the better advantage to have in the long run. Both these advantages are significant and have kept it close... so far. I expect Mertz will distance himself more as the #1 as he gets more comfortable in the new system.

Three more things from podcasts:

1. The coaching staff is excited about Mitchell at safety. However, it is likely that the player starting next to Mitchell is not on the roster at the moment. They want Wilson to win the job, but he hasn't. That's concerning because the guy behind Wilson is true freshmen Castell who has been on campus for all of about 5 minutes.

2. As of right now we have no one who can play the nickel well. Again, they will be looking to fill this spot in the portal if they can.

3. Another Max Brown update. He will not be the starter at the beginning of the year. There's no chance of that. However, if Miller and Mertz crap the bed and Brown continues to progress as quickly as he is right now, he might end the season as the starter.

Look, it's all about our first game. We must have someone who is experienced and can manage the team in that kind of an environment. Max? Forget it. Miller? Likely not and only if he just over achieves between now and then. Mertz? Odds on favorite because of his game experience unless he craps the bed. Or...an unknown portal guy who has an incredible fall.
People keep wanting BN to name a starter...name a starter. Fans want that because they're fanatics but it's not in our best interest to do that. Utah needs to be forced to prepare for everything.

Yea...unless it's as clear as last spring game, don't name a starter yet. Hit the portal for that 4th QB that he said he wants and go from there. Ok, hit the portal anyways because you never know what could happen if a starter is announced with the other two.

That said, I'll be there rain or shine...traffic permitting.

I haven’t heard anyone calling for that. In fact, I’ve actually been trying to not think about the fact one of those three will be named the starter.
