I misread it. 5'9, 165 is pretty small.

BJ at 5'7 185 was like a pinball.
Agreed. They will need to get him in the weight room and put on some muscle for sure.

I also remember Percy Harvin being pretty small his freshman year (although not that small) and then he got jacked. I can't remember if it was the summer before his sophomore year or his junior year but some pictures came out of him doing some summer workouts and the dude became a beast. The bottom line is you just can't pass on a kid who is that fast and can catch. That is elite speed. You give him the right nutrition and get him into strength training and watch out!

I just noticed Alabama only has 8 commits. Odd.
Was the same last cycle. Through June 2022 they only had 8 commits. Ended the cycle with 28 and the #1 class. But it seems odd because a lot of very good talent is committed. I'm sure Texas, Georgia, LSU have players committed Bama was recruiting. Risky strategy but worked out last season.

Completely different type of receiver.

This kid is probably more of a Jaylen waddle potential.
Yeah, I don't disagree. I'm just hoping this kid will help us do what Percy helped us do. Which is win a couple Natty's. Hopefully without the roid rage and dropping Coach Gonzaleous in the locker room.

First I’ve heard that, but slightly before my time so I don’t know. I had always heard his knees shortened his career and assume that was football related.
Just looked it up. Injured playing basketball in HS. Aggravated by football and track (arthritis).

I think more in line with Chris Rainey. Same height and weight plus elite track speed. Get him and space and he’s gone.
Rainey ran a 10.66 100m at UF. Hawkins’ pr is 10.45.

Edit: He ran 10.37 this spring.

Big test for staff. The comparable receivers we use as a measuring stick for JH's potential were in Spurrier and Meyer/Dimwit's offenses. Remains to be seen what our staff can do with this potential. If staff can shine this year with newer talent and an only decent QB roster, their job recruiting next cycles becomes SO much easier.

Running is Pajamas and running in pads are two different things. Track speed does not always translate. Does not mean they were slow on the field but both Demps and Rainey put Percy Harvin(s) away in PJ's. With pads on, Percy was faster than both of them.
Why would you capitalize "pajamas"?

I really liked the 3 WR in the 2023 class. Andy Jean came with elite footwork, route running and a college ready body. Aiden Mizell brings length and track speed. Eugene Wilson looks to be an explosive playmaker. Each prospect brings something unique that pushes the WR room forward.

I hope this type of recruiting continues as opposed to previous staffs that took every middling 4* WR that showed interest and hoped that 50% would be able to contribute in some way with the occasional high impact player. As the program elevates in all areas, UF should be able to pick and choose higher quality recruits that really bring something unique to the table. Scholarships should be like gold.

With a slot burner committed, along with Izaiah Williams being on the smaller side, the next targets should be bigger bodies with length that can be dependable in clutch situations.

I really hope Billy G continues to pursue Caleb Odom as a WR. He will probably top out around 6'6" 230-235 and could be a real mismatch on the outside.

Jerrae Hawkins with the speed, Odom as the outside mismatch, and hopefully Williams comes back strong from injury to be a real playmaker. That would be a pretty complete WR class with just 3 takes. I expect the competition for Odom to be high, especially with him leaning towards Bama, so Joshisa Trader or Chance Robinson may be viable alternatives in case we lose out on him.

I think it’s Odom and JS. And that’s it. I’d say no to both Carver and Chance now that we have Hawkins. Similar types of players.

Joshisa Trader and Tawaski Abrams are being heavily recruited by us still.

I wish we were in it more for Micah Hudson. Kid reminds me of Ja’Marr Chase. I think he’s going to be a superstar.
