With Swamp Kings on my mind….I think Billy is too much a nurturer. I’m not sure he can get in a grill and demand discipline and accountability. Even when he has released a player he spoke very positive about them. That’s fine but I always wanted to play for the coach who got fired up….which fired me up. We have talent. We have no fire.

One of the things CBN talked about last year was that "we need to get better on 3rd down scenarios and redzone."

It appears he forgot that he identified that, then, and even worked on solutions. I hope he finds that napkin and installs those fixes before game 2.

I agree. They played flat footed during many of last nights series. The head coach can be laid back but the assistants better not be.

This stuff, combined with Hayes article, and whatever else comes over the next week is going to absolutely implode this class. That’s the only reason I think Napier ‘24 is even in question. It may just become untenable.
This years W-L record isn't the issue, (imo), as long as he ends up with a top 8 or better class.

He's gonna get plenty of opportunities to make tackles this year, he may set the school record.
That could actually be a good thing. It might mean that the D Linemen are tying up the LOS and not allowing blockers to get to the 2nd level. Now if he is making tackles 7-10 yards from the LOS well then that is another story.

I think people should stop claiming Napier was left with more of a mess than any other UF coach. He's got the indoor practice field, the football only facilities and luxury apartments for the players. Players can get endorsement deals. Recruiting should be a lot easier for him than any other UF coach. The talent level of this team is actually really good. We have players all over except for the OLine. There's ways to scheme around that also. We ran a RB screen twice I think and it worked both times and we didn't go back to it again. We gotta figure out ways to get the ball to Trell and Etienne. How about Wilson? Douglas surprise anyone? We have players. Pearsall is a baller. But we gotta figure out more opportunities for the RBs than just running them straight into the line when we can't overpower any other D line on our schedule probably.

Everything you said involves coaching, specifically on the field football coaching. Something Sling Blade is extremely weak in. Many of these players are Sing Blade's players, young recrits or transfers. Regardless, a good coach coaches what he has. But like most coaches in most sports, Sling Blade has his system, so to speak, and is either unwilling or unable to change, thus square peg, round hole, just like last year. Or you hear the "gotta get his players" argument, yet they all recruit 95% of the same players. Sling Blade obvious shortcomings will never be remedied by the absolute best talent. Even those teams with the absolute best talent are coached and differences can be seen. As you mentioned even with inferior talent, it is clear to see if that team is well coached, even if they are not a high caliber team.

I think the whole "Coach X has a system and is unwilling to change" criticism is overblown. Meyer and Spurrier were absolutely like that, too, but they still put disciplined and talented teams on the field.

Wonder why we can’t use our 3rd string QB like they used their 4th string guy as a running threat? Why can’t Max Brown have a package like that?

Good analysis:
He freaking stole my " Billy Taggart " line. I shoulda trademarked it

This brings me to point that I've been wanting to mention. When we hire Napier, key words we kept hearing was "organizational skills" relationships" "attention to detail " CEO" . This is war. We need a general that can recruit soldiers. We don't need a business man.
