Just taking a survey of the top 85 it looks like 90% of them are in the SEC or F$U.

i'd like to think the timing of the news for this hire was designed to end the day on a very high note. listening to the press conference, you get the sense Mac and the staff knew there were going to be some real disappointments on the day. at the same time, he remained very cagey when pressed about the new DB coach. there was likely the respect for VT completing their class, but it was the last bit of UF news to hit for the day and it was big, putting a positive spin on how the new guys will get coached going forward and it addressed critics who were noting Callahan's shortcomings. very proactive move. it certainly lifted me out of some of the doldrums i felt over some of our lost recruiting battles.

I really like the hire, VT has always been one of those schools who tries to lay claim to being DbackU and I think Gray was a big reason why.

I don't really know much about him. When all the names were thrown out after the Callahan departure, his name stood out. I didn't think we'd have a shot at him from what's been written about him. Sounds like a great hire to me.

As for the timing, look no further than the CeCe saga last year. It was a professional courtesy to not mess with VT's recruiting class. I'm wondering if Fulton and Robinson knew who was coming on board?

I agree. This guy was supposed to be some SoFla recruiting guru, and look how our defensive class ended up. He is Choco Muschamp, a double agent sent to torpedo the program.
