I think he's fired if he doesn't win the east this year. Hiring Petrino would be a coup for them. While I think Bobby is a little overrated...he did just destroy a much more talented team in FSU. Kinda scary what he might do there. That would be an upgrade.

True...but I think having Action Jackson as his QB helped in the humiliation of FSU.

What makes them think that Petrino would actually want to leave Louisville for Knoxville? Tennessee is not a desirable position anymore. They're in a state that isn't loaded with high school talent, and they are perpetually stuck in a hole of ass. That's why they have Butch in the first place.

More worried about Herman going to UT than Petrino

UT has a lot more riding on this game then even they know. A loss to Florida will light the fuse on Jones' eventual ouster. Which will be prolonged as he'll win just enough to Richt it out for another year or two. But a decline in recruiting will be inevitable and as others have said UT is not the Head Coaching destination it once was. The SEC East all become Florida, Georgia, UK1, UK2, UK3, and UK4.

Oh and UK5, I forgot Missouri is in the SEC.

Just a few years ago, coordinators and position coaches were publicly turning that job down. Herman, petrino and gruden would be laughing their ass off if Tennessee came calling.

Do you think he'd leave a school in the middle of a recruiting gold mine like Houston for Knoxville? Especially if he manages to beat Louisville and reach the playoffs?

Even Will Mushcamp turned down a $3 mil a year contract back in 2010.

That's when you offer the house. You offer him Saban money. He'll come if the money is right.

True...everybody has their price. And to be truthful I lived/worked in Houston for years. It is a city built on a swamp. Not a pleasant place by any stretch of the imagination.

If Houston ends up in the Big XII, I don't see Herman leaving at all

This. Very much this. Herman can remain a big fish in the small B12 pond, or go to being a runt program starved for talent and support at TN. Not a career advancing move to switch if he can be a top dog in the B12 or bust the CFP once in awhile from the outside.
