Look up addiction a read about it.
Some things are actually addictive and something are not.........For about 9 months I partook almost everyday. (MANY YEARS AGO)
Then it was basically over and now has been for decades............it has no real physical hold that I could ascertain.
Beer, wine spirits? Better be careful with that sh#t.............
Durty, I agree that on scholarship at UF with all that at stake smoking weed is dumb. young guys like this are dumb. They wouldnt be near UF if they were not ELITE players................if you think they are the only dumb ones check out some Frats on game day..........elite students..............:loser:

Whether or not you become reliant on weed does not address the full implication. Anything you take before ~ age 23 that alters the brain also alters the pathways of the brain because it's not fully developed and makes you more prone to other substance abuse issues. Don't believe me? Google the topic.

That's why I went straight to smack. Kinda like running with 10-pound weights on your ankles. Afterward, you feel like you're featherweight.

I've seen numbers like 9%. Very similar to alcohol addiction numbers. I'm a person who believes addiction is a personality trait, not the substance's fault necessarily. Many people can use substances a few times without getting addicted. Others get hooked the very first time. That said, I 100% agree with you that the addiction one feels to cannabis is just not as strong as many other substances. It's a mental addiction more than physical. The withdrawal side effects are very mild. A little bit of irritability, not even as strong as tobacco withdrawals, and you'll probably lose a few nights of sleep until you get adjusted. That's really about it.

The people you see most vocal about how terrible cannabis is, most likely never tried it and are going off "Refer Madness" rhetoric they've been fed all their lives, or only tried it a time or two and felt it's most strongest effects anyone will ever feel and think that's how it always is. It's not. Just like alcohol, you get used to it and it effects you less the more you use it. Most people who use cannabis on a regular basis, be it medicinal or recreational, don't feel those strong hallucinogenic effects Swonkey is referring to anymore. That really only happens the first few times or if you take a really long break and then start up again.

Wow! Some of these comments are so naive. I'm really surprised. The people that don't smoke pot on here that are commenting, just stop. You have no clue what you're talking about. Comparisons to dangerous drugs, including alcohol is just retarded. If you're reading articles about it, that doesn't make you educated on the subject. Just go ahead and stop posting in this thread because you sound like a kid in elementary school that has no idea what different drugs do to you. Just to reiterate, if you're reading an article or have some past negative experience that doesn't make you an expert or an authority on this subject.

No doubt, but others doing it isn't really the point. The point is its not legal, and these kids have been handed a golden opportunity that any other kid would dream of. They are simply asked to abide by the rules, and the rules aren't in any way shape or form harmful, cruel, or totalitarian, this isn't Stalin Russia. Just abide by the rules, if you dont, you shouldn't be looking for a pity party.

As to the joker, if you have some positive experience with it, it doesn't make you an expert either. But way to deflect from the point. The point is its against the rules whether you think its no big deal or not.

We really need a separate pothead forum.

Despite all this debate on weed, my biggest problem is the common sense factor of these 18-21 year old student athlete's....My God, with the potency of today's weed it not like you need to sit around your dorm smoking joint after joint for hours to get high....Jeez take an empty soda can, push down a little on the tab side of the can, poke 10-12 holes in it with a paper clip, put a pea sized nodge of your bud over the little holes, light it, take 3 or 4 good draws(less than a minute), crush the can and place in the nearest outdoor trash can......Freakin amateurs :headslap:

And the defenders get stoned and like it. Not exactly unbiased or even cogent.

Robinson isn't going anywhere...but I'm not surprised to see the " holier than thou crowd" has already booted him off the team :rolleyes3:

And if Robinson ever does get on the field and lives up to his expectations, those same people who want him off the team, will cheer like crazy for him.

The RA was doing his job. Too bad the players were NOT doing theirs. For all you know the RA needs his job to stay in school and thus has to actually do it.

I really do not have anything against pot, but UF does. These guys know that particularly Robinson.

Silly argument. There has NEVER been a scenario in which a RA got fired because he didn't report two kids smoking weed to the cops. That's absurd. They weren't endangering anyone. If they got caught binge drinking, some of you would just claim that boys are being boys, while alcohol in excess is actually more dangerous. You never hear about anybody overdosing on weed, but you hear about kids getting alcohol poisoning all the time. Not saying that any kid should be doing any of these things, especially in excess, but it's about time some of you stopped trying to villainize marijuana like it's still the 1960s.

Guess what? The "holier than thou" crowd WANTS Robinson and other scholarship athletes to play. That is why they are here in the first place. Any argument that pot is no big deal completely misses the point. The point is that it is against the rules and if you break the rules you don't play. It doesn't matter if we're talking about pot or riding scooters or whatever other rule might be in place. So every time these kids touch the stuff they are jeopardizing their playing time. What we have here isn't a holier than thou argument. What we have is two sides that both want the kids to play but with one side claiming that they should obey the rules and the other side claiming that the rules are stupid. That's all.

On a broader scope though, it really just needs to be legalized nationally now. Im not a smoker, but imo if it was legalized, it would cut down on some violence which is better than it being illegal and an increase in violent drug related crime.

If weed is so bad, then why did god make it? It's a fn plant. You don't have to chemically alter the weed molecules in order for weed to be weed unlike other drugs that have to be "manufactured". I do agree that scholarship athletes should live to i higher standard and set the example, not become another static. I guess we want them downing pain killers like tic tacs then to help recover
