Many serious newspaper writers also post opinions on the editorial page.

No, they're either editorial writers or they're staff reporters. They aren't both. And you happen to be speaking to one who formerly served as a staff writer for the Gainesville Sun, St. Petersburg Times and Tampa Tribune over a 10-year period.

I’m not surprised there was not any news today. Today was game day and the university should make today about the players and current staff that is playing a game today and not release news that could distract the players. Now that the game is over all bets are off. I’d love to wake up tomorrow with the announcement of a PC scheduled for Monday...fingers crossed!

Yeah they’ll be a press conference Monday, like there usually is around noon with Shannon talking about the next game and so on.

Was Chris Low reporting on the show or just telling what he thought? Sorry ... just dont believe it is mainstream.

There are all sorts of ways it could be structured. There are all sorts of ways the NFL contracts could be written to avoid that kind of slight of hand. Who know's. But if the offset language wasn't carefully written you can bet that part of future contracts for everybody will increase five pages.

Regarding Kelly's $ from the Niners, aren't NFL head coaching contracts typically written so that the former team stops payment if the coach gets another NFL head coaching position? I didn't think that continuing payments would be effected if the coach got a college position. Is that common?

My source comes straight from the UAA. Either this is happening or they are blatantly lying.

You sure they aren't lying because they have a six-figure deal with Deadspin going on in the background?

Not doubting you, Ox. Not at all. In fact, the posts here from you and some others are more trustworthy than Franz Beard’s reporting.

Searches are inherently fluid until the deal is closed, at least in principle, and announced. If it doesn’t close we may never know why and they’ll develop a narrative to support the person they do call. So if it doesn’t happen I’d assume something along those lines rather than doubt your source.

But will not find a better job, that's for sure.

You aren't alone in seeing it that way, hence why the speculation is so intense. The NFL makes no sense for Kelly, but college does. Now make your short list.

Uh-huh. Florida zips to the top.
