Considering sexual assault was committed by an employee (Smith) and ignored by another superior employee (Meyer) is a violation. It doesn’t matter that the victim is not a student or faculty.

I agree that should be true, but I don't know if it is. I've been doing some online research, and I'm finding otherwise. For example: Title IX Q&A and Doe v. Brown University: Non-Students and the Limits of Title IX Liability

I just want to be clear that Meyer is definitely morally wrong for keeping this guy on and not telling the university. I just don't know if the university can fire him for cause based on a bunch of technicalities. I agree with Law that Meyer lied to the media about this and that could be a fireable offense if the university wants to go that route, but even Butters got millions from UF after he lied to the media.

I want to point from your other post that I cannot think of anyone who was suspended and not fired. They probably are trying to get rid of him, while Meyer's lawyers are looking for technicalities and loopholes so Meyer can still get paid. I'm curious to see if Ohio St can and will fire him without any buyout.

I don’t think they can fire him for cause because the contractual verbiage wasn’t added until his most recent extension. However the school being held liable would be reason enough to separate themselves from Meyer. It just means they may have obligations to pay him a handsome sum of money to go away. But, like you and Law said, there’s the lying to the media. That’s even worse than hitting a woman.

I see that the picture that they use for the story is them in Gator gear. None of the 3 years of domestic disputes that the article is describing happened when they were in Gainesville. I know he did beat her at least once in Gainesville, but if your not talking about that particular incident, and only describing what took place while in Ohio, then why the picture of them in Orange and Blue?

I'm confused as to what he should have reported. "I can't prove it and the police can't prove it but Zach is beating his wife"?

Part of Title IX is that if a university employee is accused of sexual assault, he should still have reported it to his superior. Since we do not have all of the information and have not heard from Urbs, nor from Shelly, they very well might have reported it. If he reported it, he is pretty much free and clear. But if he had information that an employee of the university had been accused of sexual assault, he was to report it. He is not required to investigate. Just required to report to his supervisor, which is the AD. Shelly, being a university employee, did report it, to Urbs, or so we assume. She did the right thing. Urbs??? we shall see.

I'm just wondering how this goes down:
Meyer: Hey Zach I need to talk to you about something. Shelly told me Courtney called and said you've been hitting her.
Zach: She's just angling for the divorce settlement.
Meyer: Well I saw a picture of her with bruises.
Zach: She ran into a door.
Meyer: Still this doesn't sound right.
Zach: Look Urby, The police investigated her claims eight times and found nothing. I'm telling you it's BS.
Meyer: I got more important **** to do and you're becoming a problem. I'm going to see if I can get you job somewhere else. And cool it with your wife because if you don't I'm going make you do squats until your quads explode.

So I keep hearing that Title IX is about sexual assault. Was that in the McMurphy stuff? I didn’t realized he was sexually assaulting her.

Sounds like she needed a gun, but she’d probably just wave in his face and get herself shot. So probably better she took the beatings than getting herself killed. Should’ve went to the shelter in G’ville years ago, filed charges and filed for divorce

Some of that article is real and does good in fully condemning domestic assault on a wife.
But I dislike the writer's so easy slide into making these particular people's actions/inactions exist because of the cesspool nature of college football. He then assaults UF fans as only caring if we'll get recruits out of this. That's the grab-bag reporters reach for to create their "preaching-to-the-choir" masterpiece article. Domestic violence is no-way most prevalent, nor most violent in the sports arena. Domestic violence should be crusaded against as a curse across all the landscape, not as if it's a problem belonging to the famous.

Throughout the nation, women are even murdered as the end-product of domestic attacks. After the fact, police nod that they are not surprised. Repeat reports show this was building. This is where the spotlight should be intensely focused.

Instead she's showing everybody under the bus, blaming everybody else except herself and her husband. File charges and file for divorce. Yeah, he makes some pretty decent money and you will have to do without and you might have to get a job and actually work but them are the breaks.

When my sister told us that my brother in law was hitting her, I told him to move to another state within 15 days or I was coming for him. He moved...no second chances, no nothing...Oh and we took some really good pics. :)

@FootballScoop: Zach Smith on the radio right now saying he never committed domestic abuse against his wife.

Says things were volatile and he restrained her some times; but never “abused” her.
