Without cause. He’s due about $5.5m.

I'm curious how much of that he gets. I'm guessing - after this sh*t show - he'll get the whole thing.

He'll end up in the NFL somewhere in the next year or two. He should probably take a year off, but probably lands somewhere this offseason, even if it's just an analyst type position. He could very well end up in the Nick Saban Former Head Coaches Rehab Program.

Looks like the university president, Dr Loh, disagreed with the Regents recommendation, saw the writing on the wall, tendered his “retirement”, and then upon listening to the SGA president, the Governor, and others decided to do what his gut told him to do in the first place. Not exactly a “lame duck” move. Good for him.

I wonder if the Board of Regents can now fire the university president for disobeying them. For cause!

I don't see how he gets all of the buyout, I might insist he get nothing.

I graduated from UF but finished high school in Maryland about 15 mins from College Park and have been watching the Terps for many years, so consider myself a fan.

The Board of Regents are a bunch of ****ing clowns. Not that it would have been any better but they protected Durkin like he just won Maryland a title. He tried to hide behind the org. chart and they were perfectly willing to accept it. Pathetic. As if he wasn’t the head coach and didn’t know what was going on. If he had a shred of decency would have resigned right after the incident. Canada did just fine without him anyway and if he takes over permanently I won’t mind; not sure who’d come running for that job anyway.

They admitted yesterday they had no grounds by reinstating him. They’ll pay his buyout.

Who reinstated him, the regents, throw them under the bus and insist on paying nothing. Go to court if needed, they must make a statement or their program might not recover. Time will of course tell.

They should get the death penalty just for the uniforms alone.

Almost no chance of winning that unless there is a memo from DJ to the training staff telling them to try to kill a player and not give them water at all cost.

Perhaps, but doubt they'd do it. Too much pub on this now. Plus they would likely lose the ensuing lawsuit since their finding was a "recommendation" rather than an "order".

Get 5.5 million bucks to do nothing. That doesn't sound so bad to me. Congrats to Durkin.

It was not their finding, it was an independent commission's finding.

Or players can prove that they complained to the head coach about the trainer's actions and Durkin did nothing.

Players didn’t complain. The report said that was part of the culture problem...fear of speaking out.

That's some nebulous chit! You mean some 6'4", 320# DT was afraid of going to Durkin's office? Or the leadership of the team was afraid? If not the HC what about the AD? Yeah, right! He was probably hard driving their behinds and they're hoping that by firing him some softy comes in.

Semantics. I think you know what I meant. But in case you didn't...
The Board of Regents, based on a report from the independent commission, made a recommendation to the University President that Durkin be retained.
By the way, technically it IS the Regents' finding, since they commissioned the investigation and therefore own it.

BTW, our old friend, Byron Cowart, our favorite 5* to make fun of, is doing very well at Maryland. He's up to 293# and I think he's playing DT. He has more stats in 8 games than the previous 3 years at Auburn. Durkin was his recruiter at Florida. What's Byron going to do now that Durkin is gone?

For the love of God man, please no. We don't need another elite recruiter pillaging top recruits away from this state especially since FSU looks to be headed in the wrong direction and UM is losing it's short lived luster....bring his ass here and do it quickly, please.
