300-pound Kerwin Bell named USF OC

This is great news. I felt like Kerwin would only take a head coaching job or an OC job at a power 5 school, but this might be a great stepping stone.

I moved to St. Pete in 1999 and have never attended a Bulls game, but I will now. I think that he is a master at developing QBs, but that can take some time. Blake Barnett was a 5* QB, but I wonder if he is a bust and/or too old a dog to teach new tricks. I think that there are some weapons at USF that he can work with, though. I'd love to see them knock UCF down next year.

But damn, they play Wisconsin in the opening game next year. That will be tough just based on the talent difference. Wisconsin has a decent defense (22nd in passing yards allowed, around 30th in scoring and total defense). Then they have Georgia Tech and BYU a few games later. But they should roll on offense against AAC competition. In this gig at least defense is Strong and his DC's problem. He just has to score. In 2020 they open at Texas if this site is correct: 2020 USF Football Schedule | Future Schedules It also has them opening 2021 with Texas (Tampa), UF (Gainesville), and at Louisville. That will not work out well for them. (USF clearly has bigger balls than UCF, though).

If Kerwin and USF do well, Strong will probably bounce for a power 5 job somewhere and I would assume that Kerwin would be the heir apparent for the HC job.

It will be a little awkward when they play the Gators three times over 4 years. But a lot can happen between now an then.

Looking up those schedules, I see disagreement as to what years UF and USF play. One article said 2022, 2023 and 2025. But 2020 USF Football Schedule | Future Schedules says 2021, 2022 and 2025. Maybe I missed something.

It was 22, 23 and 25, it was changed to 21, 22 and 25.

Probably won't matter, he'll be running an ACC school before then.

He turned down Auburn under Tuberville (spelling) and was coaching his kid while offered by UF (if memory is correct)

I think Auburn wanted him as QB coach. Still would have been a good move for him.

There were plenty of coaches too stupid to hire him. I posted earlier, but Troy would have been a great landing spot for him as head coach.

BMF, Kerwin interviewed for the OC position for Auburn under Chizik (forgot about him, for some reason was thinking Tubberville) in 2011/2012.

and I agree on Troy, would have been a good landing spot.

I was told he wanted Full control over the play calling at UF and Muschump said, "Thanks but no thanks"

I thought FAU or FIU would have gone after Kerwin.

I've always liked Charlie Strong (timing never right for UF) and a Strong/Bell coaching set-up was my dream...We shall see:ohboy:

Could you imagine Kerwin being forced to run Chump ball?

I've heard different versions of the "negotiation".

I thought that Kerwin’s position was that he had no desire to be an OC anywhere because he wanted to be in charge? What changed? Reality set in?

I was told he wanted control of "the Pay Calling" and why Muschamp said NO.
