At The Opening, Williams was officially weighed at 6'4, 240. That's too skinny? I have no idea about him being a one trick pony. Aren't a lot of pass rushers at that age?

Opening measurements:

DE CHANTZ WILLIAMS
Height: 6-foot-4

Weight: 238 pounds

40-yard dash time: 4.66 seconds

Shuttle time: 4.63 seconds

Powerball thrown: 39 feet

Vertical jump: 35.9 inches

Rating: 116.61 (46th at event)

Some more info:

“Williams was very productive as a junior this season, posting 22 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and 15 quarterback hurries.”

Evaluation

Long edge prospect with lean, athletic build. Pure pass rusher with explosive first step and developed technique. Can beat blocker with speed or strong pound-for-pound force. Powerful lower-half with great wingspan. Aware on the edge and can play the football if initial rush is unsuccessful. Redirects well and pursues with great motor. Can navigate tight spaces and play through the wash. Runs well and tests well. Stand-up ability with considerable experience with his hand in the dirt as well. Good lateral mover. Once focused solely on football should fill out well at high-end Power Five program and see snaps sooner rather than later. In the day and age of spread offenses and pass-first programs he could become key cog in elite defense and spur it into pro career thereafter.

Athletic Background
Three-sport standout who owned high school hoops team’s all-time shot-blocking record before conclusion of junior season.

Chantz Williams, Oakleaf, Weak-Side Defensive End

Where did he get the 10 sacks number? He has 10.5 sacks for his entire career according to maxpreps.com. He only played 3 games in 2018 before he got injured. He recorded no sacks in 2018.

He set a school record with 4 as a freshman. 6.5 as a Soph (It looks like he was named captain). And his Jr. numbers are not on MaxPreps yet.

By the way, I’m not saying he’s going to be good or not be good. I’m just sharing what I see. From some tweets and articles I read it looks like he struggled a bit on certain passing drills at the Open. But it also looks like he’s a multi sport athlete and teams want him because they think he could become a pass rushing specialist.

I haven’t seen anywhere that we have stopped pursuing him. Other than some Twitter banter.

But what do I know?

Nothing.

And yet none of the big teams want him.

It seems not many people agree with Farrell.

Oakleaf's Chantz Williams is well known in the area as he made the "1st-Team" in football at the linebacker position. The junior will graduate early next year and looks to take his talents to the college level. Not just a force in football, Williams gave teams fits this year on the court. He shot 63% from the field and averaged an amazing 3.5 blocks a game. His size was a problem on both ends of the court. Coach Jason Pryce said this about Williams, "He is an elite multi-sport athlete, but also an elite student (3.625 GPA), teammate and overall person. He has an amazing work ethic and positive personality." No wonder Williams was selected as team captain for two straight years. He has had an outstanding career at Oakleaf evidenced by becoming the all-time career leader in both rebounds and blocked shots and has won numerous honors. Other Clay County schools will be glad to see Williams move on to the college ranks.

Here’s a pretty good comparison. I know most of this board has said they want Dumervil.

All that being said – it looks like most crystal balls are pointing to Miami

Meh. I don't put a tremendous amount of stock in these camps when it comes to the o line. Maybe it is just my soft spot for them, but I tend to think the jump they experience at these events is more difficult to overcome than it is for the defensive guys. It's rare that you see the guys in high school who really have their technical game at a high level. I think that is one reason why of all positions it's the one where you seem to have the most busts/gems. It's just damn hard to project how they will develop both physically and technically.

Unless they are going against elite competition every week they are used to being both stronger and quicker than the lineman they are blocking. I think the quickness of the elite defense prospects can make some of these guys who will be absolute monsters down the road look cartoonish at times because it exposes the flaws (especially in their hands) that some frazzled coach has tried to work out of them since they were freshman but has left them with glazed over eyes because even when they are not doing right they are absolutely destroying all comers in the rep.
