I meant in terms of recruiting class, but my wording choice was poor.
Gotcha.

You didnt just compare SOS dominating the SEC, winning the SEC 4 times, winning the east and losing in the SECG the other year to this Donnanlike Dwagshyt Mullinz is pulling are you?.
it’s pretty much the same thing SOS experienced until the Nebraska NC game. It was enough to make SOS realize that he needed a top caliber defensive coordinator to get to the top..

Donnan used to say it was ok to lose bc he was losing to a top 5 team and a top 10 team.

First coach this decade who didn't win at least a piece of a division "championship".
First since Zook not to win in his second season.
Technically if Ugay loses to Barn and we beat Mizzou, we'd get a piece.
I’m quite certain if we time travel back to 1995, you’d be spewing the same type of complaints. You didnt just compare SOS dominating the SEC, winning the SEC 4 times, winning the east and losing in the SECG the other year to this Donnanlike Dwagshyt Mullinz is pulling are you?

It’s a Donk specialty. He’s erased all the bad memories from Spurrier and turned the rest into rainbows and kittens no one will ever replicate. You didn’t really just compare a period where an SEC team won the NC a total of 3 times in 12 years, to an era where the SEC winner was also the best overall team in the country 9 of the last 13 years did you?
Spurrier used to down play the importance of the fsu game—which pretty much killed any chance of winning a NC—because he claimed the SECCG was more important, which was convenient since he was 5 of 14 against them. He was “ok” losing to them because he had “bigger fish to fry”.
Still going?
You're right, it probably isn't a fair comparison. In Spurrier's 1st 2 seasons, he lost to Tennessee 45-3, and gave up a 28-0 halftime lead to Notre Dame to lose 39-28 in the second half
now it's pretty oblivious to the need to develop a better defense and bought the line that recruiting what's so important that we couldn't fire Zook.I’m quite certain if we time travel back to 1995, you’d be spewing the same type of complaints.

Please getting blown out by Mizzu* and losing to Kintucky are far worse.
* not counted as an actual loss because it was just our second lost to Georgia according to pumperdom.
Id have a lot less concern if he rebounded to win the SEC championship and if he brought home a top-three class every year for the next decade. If Mullen had lost 45-3 to ANY team on the schedule, you'd be braying about him being a lousy offensive coach.

Mullen hasn't had anywhere near that level of in-game collapse in his first two seasons (though 2018 vs Mizzou was almost as bad).
We never had a 28-0 on ND. We did have a 31-3 4th qtr lead on the Noles and lost it though
You're right. Senility must be setting in. I was at both of those games. I remember being at the 1991 Sugar Bowl and feeling that we were moving the ball well on them all night, and should have won the game. I spent the night on Bourbon Street after the game, drinking hurricanes and doing whippits (which were legal and available all over the place), so I'm not surprised my recollection is fuzzy and that I merged it with the devastating tie with FSU after giving up a 28-point lead in the 4th quarter.
Point remains that Spurrier had a lot of missteps his first few years, and things turned out really well. So I'm willing to see what happens with Mullen as well, especially given that the league is MUCH more difficult now than it was then.
