I like that because we would have a wide open offense (if he was to return to his Valdosta St days).

Brian Schottenhimer
Marquand Manuel would be a good hire on defense. he coached with Dan Quinn for a few years.

Hard pass on Schottenheimer. Well after establishing his career he voluntarily took a job at uga. Guys like him and Gillespie are the Tessios of former players.

Always wished DW had gone into coaching. Between his tutelage under Spurrier, and calm yet killer demeanor, it would be as great a story as Spurrier in 1990. I think he’d be awesome.

The flip side of course to all of this is that if they don’t work out, you’re left criticizing and firing a former legend. One of the reasons I never wanted Bell.
Beat me to it. Danny Boy's greatest strength is his football IQ. He didn't have the athletic talent or big arm to bail him out of sloppy decisions. Ya gotta have the brains to transition from player to coach. We'll probably never know if he can be the next Darth Visor, but I'd sure like to find out. I think his odds of success are good based on your reasoning, plus maybe a little help from above? Kidding... sorta...

Honorable Mention:

-Mike Mularkey has had small pockets of success, but has fallen short in the NFL. I wonder what he could do at UF with a good recruiting staff?
-Wonder what Bam or M Manuel could do at DC?
-Also wonder how Scott Brantley would do at DC? I'll bet the D's tackling effort would never be disappointing. Ever.

Confession: Count me as a longstanding Kerwin Bell supporter. However his early efforts at USF have given me doubts. I don't know if it's the players or if his O just doesn't work at the D1 level.

Is he even out of the can yet?

May make him more relatable when recruiting the tough areas, but having a PO call mid game could be problematic.

Was a 90-day sentence. Pretty sure he’s out. The white-collar crime tag would probably resonate when he recruits at places like Oak Hall and St. Thomas Aquinas.

Surprised no one mentioned Brad Culpepper. He’s an injury lawyer down here in Tampa. Filed his own claim with the NFL over brain trauma. Now that’s a smart dude.

Yeah but I imagine he’s all tatted up now. Again, pros and cons.

Why wouldn’t Tebow make a great choice? I’m not clear he would be the best to call the plays, nor do I think it would be necessary. Just delegate.

Can you imagine Tim Tebow on the recruiting trail or commanding respect from his players? Holy shyt.

In a world full of Tessios, be a Clemenza.

Tebow would be an Orgeron type of hire in that he would likely bring in good recruits, motivate players, and act as the face of the program, but he would need top assistants to manage the game plan, play calling, etc.

Timmy would likely need an awesome staff that includes an OC or DC who could handle Assistant Head Coach duties and help with organizational stuff on game day in addition to the playcalling. But yeah, he'd probably be a Pied Piper on the recruiting trail. Also, the locker room would need to have a killer sprinkler system because those kids would head for the field with their hair on fire before each half.

Edit: And the S&C program would be insane.
