Always wished DW had gone into coaching. Between his tutelage under Spurrier, and calm yet killer demeanor, it would be as great a story as Spurrier in 1990. I think he’d be awesome.
The flip side of course to all of this is that if they don’t work out, you’re left criticizing and firing a former legend. One of the reasons I never wanted Bell.
Beat me to it. Danny Boy's greatest strength is his football IQ. He didn't have the athletic talent or big arm to bail him out of sloppy decisions. Ya gotta have the brains to transition from player to coach. We'll probably never know if he can be the next Darth Visor, but I'd sure like to find out. I think his odds of success are good based on your reasoning, plus maybe a little help from above? Kidding... sorta...
Honorable Mention:
-Mike Mularkey has had small pockets of success, but has fallen short in the NFL. I wonder what he could do at UF with a good recruiting staff?
-Wonder what Bam or M Manuel could do at DC?
-Also wonder how Scott Brantley would do at DC? I'll bet the D's tackling effort would never be disappointing. Ever.
Confession: Count me as a longstanding Kerwin Bell supporter. However his early efforts at USF have given me doubts. I don't know if it's the players or if his O just doesn't work at the D1 level.
