It's going to water down the shcit out of college basketball .

I'm thinking the same thing. What makes Nix's decision big is him going g-league after signing an LOI. Cronin likely isn't going to be able to fill that need with a quality pg which leaves his program devastated. If this happens enough times, I can see many coaches refusing to recruit these kids.

Also, how many of these kids go g-league? Is the NBA only going after a few per class? Or, will the NBA sign a number of them if the kids want to? If successful, more and more kids will forego college. Likely, there will be no more elite programs like a Duke or UK.

Here are some brief highlights of Kowacie. Looks like a great signing. It is too bad his offense is going to die a painful death once Coach White gets a hold of him.

So numerous guys can stay in the states, make 6 figs for a year and then go to the draft. I have no issue with it. They have had the chance to go oversees all this time as well. Sure it will take a lot of very good players out of the NCAA, the 1 and done guys, but over time it will make the college game better in one respect. There is a chance you will get teams to stay together 2 or 3 years, like the old days. And that makes coaching all the more important. If that does happen I think of guys like Rick Majerus and how he won lots of games during his career with not so great individual talent. Think about a guy like Tony Bennett who gets no 5 star kids ever, but plays at the top of the ACC every year against all those 1 and done guys. How will he do when UNC, Duke , etc. have guys like his guys? The guy at TTech will be good also even if the talent pool is more level.

Not necessarily. Kevaughn Allen and Hudson digressed but Scottie Lewis and Tre Mann improved offensively over the course of the season. So did Nembhard and KJ.

Some of that is on the player...good and bad.

Kid is super skinny at 6'6, but he can shoot! Here's a tweet he posted, which is cool to see that he's been a Gator fan that long:

@t-gator what's wrong w/ that tweet? You and the old man down voted it. I thought it's pretty cool that he's actually been a UF fan since he was a kid. It's not?

Good article. I often felt this past season that I was the only one who picked up on the frequent lapses on defense by Payne. Despite elite rim protection skills he was often caught out of position and didn’t appear to understand the defensive rotations. Right or wrong....these deficiencies lead to the pine by nearly all coaches. I’m a big Payne fan and expect to see a far more comfortable player this coming season.

This new kid intrigues me. I think he can become a contributor. Not a star but a Meyers Leonard type contributor.

Jitoboh did a decent job dropping the excess weight. Now he needs to turn that weight into muscle. He is very raw and should continue to develop. Personally I thought he exceeded expectations this past season. Decent upside.

Payne was a 6'10" freshman, ready to learn with his friends, teammates. White misused him. Jerked him in & out. Not the way to develop for the future i.e. sophomore year, ... just one year. The way White handled this team was irrelevant to the W-L record.
White's crew needs to work much better with our inside players. Get this team working better. We are needing a 6'11" insider. We've got 2 then 3.

Disagree. Payne was playing behind our most effective big. At this level you have to earn those minutes. As the article points out defense and effort were the issues. Those are non-negotiable for any coach. Big lessons were learned and you’ll see a much better adjusted player this season.

When it comes to effort, I think he will be better. But, in White's time as HC, he has been a failure at developing big men. Egbunu is the only one who took genuine strides under White. If history is any indicator, what we see right now from Payne and Jitoboh is what they will be as seniors. They will improve a little bit, but basically still be the same.

The biggest problem has been our recruiting of bigs imo. We have not been able to land elite centers. Payne is the most talented of the whole bunch and he will show tremendous improvement over the next 2 years. He needs to add weight/strength and develop his game facing the basket but he will develop into a very good player.

Jitoboh is a different scenario altogether. He arrived well overweight and extremely raw. He started playing the game late and everything is new to him. He has already shown good improvement and far exceeded expectations his first year. He’s a 4 year guy that should continue to improve and prove to be a serviceable contributor.

Jitoboh won’t be an All-SEC type. But I think Payne will be by his junior year. I think his upside is significant.

Read the article. He never said how Castleton fits in other than, "White needs big men." Since he has to sit out a year, White could recruit a freshman with athleticism who can average 2 points in 6-8 minutes. Recruiting is the one thing White does well. I do agree he needs to add weight. Like Erik Murphy, the kids struggles could be because he is so thin. Once Murphy added that extra 20-25 pounds, he was a solid player. One can only hope.

The biggest problem has been our recruiting of bigs imo. We have not been able to land elite centers.

In White's defense, we are UF. There are only a select few elite bigs every class. Those guys go to the big boys. With the G-league becoming a thing, they will go there. White needs to learn from Leonard Hamilton. He's been recruiting quality big men for years who are 3 stars. Only recently is he adding 4 star big men. By the way, White couldn't get Isaiah Stokes to do anything. Stokes immediately gets to Memphis and sheds all that weight. He looks fantastic and is actually a bit chiseled.
