I find it interesting that we had by far the worst defensive back play since I can remember and none of it falls on the db coaches shoulders around here. And yet our record setting passing offense was strictly because the QB coach and the O coordinator/play caller had nothing to do with it.

He bares some responsibility, but you have a decade of history on the DC and the DB coach... one falls in line with their history, one doesn't. So you either look at the data and say well it's just Todd's fault, or you get in front of a microphone blame the players and the position coach (which Mullen did). The nickname "3rd and grantham" doens't come from No Where.

As far as the offense analogy... against Mullen has been a head coach for now 14 years. This is the first offense that looked like this and in an interview said that it was Brian Johnson that made him change his strategy. So if we see a different offense than what he has shown before, and gives credit to the new OC. Who should we give credit too. By that same token do you give credit for LSU's 2019 offense to Orge or to their new OC Joe Brady?

this is a good point. even if your coordinator or head coach is an idiot as a position coach you have to change his mind.... so you do have some responsibility.

if the hard-headed head coach or coordinators won't change their game plan to something that actually makes sense despite your input, the only thing you can do is leave, which is what Gray did. Ditto for Johnson because Mullen slipped back into running option 45% of the time thinking it would some how make Third and Grantham not Third and Grantham.

I have great respect for Johnson and Gray. Id fire Douchebag and hire Johnson tomorrow.

The bottomline is most these people making the critiques dont have the slightest clue about scheme.

You're right, our DB's were outstanding last year.
safety and linebacker play was atrocious. it's really hard to come up with a word for how bad they are. basically non-existent in either run or pass.... with the exception of Ventrell to a solid versus the run but has conference USA speed.

ccornerback scheme is horrid as is the defensive line. most of that is just run blitzing every play and one gapping... and requiring the cornerbacks to play both cornerback and safety.

there's literally nothing sound and nothing functional about a Grantham defense and there never has been. he was third in Grantham at Georgia when he had mostly NFL talent at every position.

It's not a position coach, it's not talent, it's grantham. PERIOD.

Yeah, all those veteran (some "elite") position coaches were too scared to tall Fat Todd about his scheme all season long.....

Have you watched our defense? at all? Did you watch him before. Or at Gyorgya? His work product has been consistently garbage over more than a decade. It wasnt a one year fluke.

No one called English even sligtly competent. But before he became a fulltime Ole English chugger, he used to be rumored to be a solid recruiter though.

Christian Robinson is an intern who was cheap. His next job will be in 1AA. BUT HE TWEETS!!!!

The DL coach came from South Texas. Honestly he has been a surprise. At least he recruits a little. Technique on the line has improved but that doesn't fix the scheme being ridiculous.

It also wasnt "BECAUSE COVID". He hasnt been able to stop a passing offense ever. The SEC isnt going back to Stone Age offenses. The decade of kill the clock offenses are over.

I think you're both missing the bigger point here. At the absolute earliest, that pic is from 2011, and it's quite possible that it's from as recent as 2013. In just a span of 6-8 years, this guy went from looking like that, to looking like this(below). It's such a powerful lesson that you just can't center your life around Newports, airport/rest stop strip clubs, and Canadian Club neat. It doesn't matter how much Drakar you douse on yourself, or how much you press your pleated pants or shine those weaved, tassel loafers. The damage is being done and it will rear its ugly head sooner rather than later. They don't put this disclaimer on those quarter machines in the bathrooms, but it's a death wish waiting to happen, regardless of whether it's a traditional condom, some sort of weird sex toy or a quick spritz of Aqua Di Gio. People should think twice before they do it, and remember this face. If you teach your children nothing else, dammit, please teach them this.

This is both very funny and a great, alarming PSA. That’s a stunning physical transformation. If only everyone listened to the see-sayers here, they’d know the bulldog would get its gross, infection riddled, snout wrinkles. I’m sure the 1.5 packs a day of Marlborough Reds and swigs of Jack straight from the bottle while Tara serves him in a bikini top had no effect.

I guess it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. In dog years he’s that span is like 70+ years. So he’s right on track.
