I had predicted that EJ wouldn't play today. Since Mullen still wanted to redshirt him and with the Trask injury. I didn't think Mullen would elect to use one of his final two games to use him against a cupcake. If Franks goes down next week, he has to play EJ. Now if there's one thing Franks has been, that's durable. If EJ gets in against the Noles then no bowl game, unless he burns his redshirt, which Mullen has been adamant on him keeping. Now I understand, if injuries happen, then he'll be forced to burn his redshirt.

One of the games to play him that made the most sense to me was the bowl game. He gets plenty of practice leading up to that game. Is Mullen just wanting Fsu to have to prepare for EJ and not really planning to use him in that game? I think Will Miles said on the last podcast, that if EJ played a lot this week. He thought that might be a sign that EJ was not as far along as Mullen had hoped. He's playing pretty good currently, but have to consider the opponent. I'm of the belief that he doesn't play against the Noles unless he has to. I just don't see why you don't use him in the bowl game with all that extra practice. I was wrong about this game, what do y'all think?

He would just miss the bowl game at the worst, and I expect a package against FSU.

I think he has to give him a half here in case Franks gets hurt or screws the pooch against the Clowns. He needs some live game reps.

I like mustard on my Ham Sandwich.

Seriously, you worry too much. Just let it play out...

#Even if he doesn't play in the bowl game he will still get the extra practice.

I’m all for burning the redshirt and playing him both games. Hell, I’d let him play all those minutes Trask played this year. That was a waste in my opinion, EJ is your future. He’s was never gonna be here 5 years either.

I agree with Deuce.....let what will happen, happen. FSUX could give us a really close game and in that case barring an injury Franks will be in there the whole game anyway.
I don't understand some posters logic saying EJ should play in the bowl game like it is some kind of audition....fug that....we should be trying to win our bowl game at all cost. One it would give us "10 win" status assuming we beat FSU, and 2 it feels a lot better ending a season on a winning note....3rd and most important is it will be the last time most recruits get to see your product before making a decision......

I suspect Mullen would like to play Franks the entire FSU game and let Emory play some of the bowl game. If Franks goes down or plays poorly, then he'll burn the redshirt, which will increase Emory's chances to win the starting job next year.

I agree with this. I'm not sure why the bowl game is so important to everyone.
It's not like he'll be exiled to Antarctica if he plays in 4 games. He'll still get the extra practice reps.
I think the gamelan, going in, is hopefully Franks can play well and play the whole game. But if it plays out differently, that's fine too.

Today made the most sense. He got more reps in this game alone than he would in mop-up duty in 4 games. Now, he gets in against fsu, if we need him, or the bowl game, and that’s his season. Perfectly played by Mullen, imo.

I'd question him inserting him in the UGA game, seemed like a waste to me. Toney could've done that same package.

Should he be the starter next year in Jax, it may be nice for him to have seen that atmosphere and taken a few reps.

Also, if Franks is rolling and in rhythm that game, we probably don’t see him. As it is, why not try to create a spark.

I’m sure it was a wrinkle worked in on the bye week. He played, its history now. You may be right, I just didn’t see much of a point in playing him those plays looking back now.

We are over thinking this process. Let the kid play and get reps in a game situation with the number ones. The Semi's will play tough against us, and you can bet they will take every shot they can against Franks. To me beating them is far more important than a bowl game. If we need him next week he has some positive momentum, and teachable plays from this game. Make Willie game plan for EJ.

FSU game isn't going to be easy, not sure why anyone thinks EJ was being saved for that game. Letting him play today was the best thing for his development. He played more than an entire half of football, and excelled (sure it was a cupcake) vs. going on the road against a rival. The likelihood is our next two games (FSU and bowl game) will be close games (and could be losses). So his chances of playing any more than he played vs. UGA were/are slim. Unless Franks gets injured, he probably doesn't play much at all the next two games. Mullen did right by EJ today and EJ will be a better football player down the road because of today.

And for that matter, if this was Butters or Muschamp, this game would likely have been close at halftime w/ a final score of something like 38-21 and NONE of the reserves would have played today. Glad we got a blowout when we were supposed to.

You are absolutely correct - EJ isn't going to be at UF 5 yrs, anyway

I agree with everything except the recruiting. Our class will be determined with the early signing period like everyone else. The bowl game comes later.
