I agree w/ Law that we have enough Edge/OLB/Rushbackers or whatever the f*ck they're called. But so does Alabama. We cut Griffis loose for Williams (so says many of the recruiting sites), so we'll see.

You can never have enough speedy (4.5/40 players) edge rushers. We want them agile, mobile and hostile!:p:D

Leo, I disagree. There's only 85 scholarships and they need to be managed properly. I'm not sure if Grantham is trying to run a true 3-4, but if he is having 8+ edge rushers is a waste of a couple of spots. Generally, only 1 will play at a time. It's called 'roster management' and we watched Will Muschamp f'ck that up more than any coach we've had in years. We need heavy DL's, not 214 pounders (in this cycle).

With that being said, I think we get Chantz Williams...but hopefully w/ Joseph, they are the only two "edge" guys in the class.

Yes that is true but if he is trying to finally go to a true 3-4 system he will need these OLB/DE hybrids. Plus with his speed he can cover speedy tight ends without any problems.

I don't know Grantham seems to like Rush backers/WDEs. He played WVU's weak-side defensive end at at defensive tackle, and is apparently going to play Louisville's linebacker at defensive tackle. He played Moon and some other lighbackers at strong-side defensive end a little.

If we ever move from 4*-2-5 to a 3-4 in the future and he remains willing to play a 250ish pound guys at defensive tackle, I guess we could have five on the field at one time (DT, 2 DEs and 2 OLBs).

I guess the plan is that we dont need size if we guess right on run blitzes.

Guessing right is frustrating we got burned a few times this last season doing that we need to have three big guys in the middle at all times

For sure mandan, if Franks, EJ, etc. can develop and learn, why can't a DC? He yells at other people to learn, all the time.

EDIT - I was wrong. I got that backwards. Durkin was on staff under Meyer but wasn't at DC until after Quinn had come and gone.

I don't see any difference between side hat and the dwag. just mediocre coordinators. who was the coordinator after Quinn? Travaris? I put him in the same boat also. Basically those three are about the same and Randy Shannon sucked.

Didn't think Geoff Collins was too bad but it is really hard to evaluate any coach that was here when Butters wore the hat. He was smart enough to know to take the first ticket out but really wasn't here long enough to see. In retrospect, probably credit him more for that 'banner' than Butters.

If their WDE weighed 275, I can't wait to see what their SDE weighed? 300?

Im sure. That is normal P5 size. Like Bullard.
275 is pretty light for a for an end in a 3 man line.

I dont know why some are convinced that we recently moved to the Sunbelt.

Most coordinators will go light on obvious passing situations. The reason that Shuler was there on running downs is that our heavy DTs did not get the job done. Campbell played pretty good but Slaton and Conliffe did not.
